Not a stellar beach, but as long as we're discussing places under the radar...
and I think that could be a website all its own,
in Italy there's a little town called Sestri Levante, it's an old Teutonic outpost at the bottom end of the Italian Riviera, right before you hit Cinque Terre.
Quiet little backwater, hard to get to, and the beach is ok in a kind of glunky and skorkish way.
but sooo laid back.
our train was delayed and we got in late and the owners greeted us with genuine concern (at first I thought they were being sarcastic or perfunctory)
but they really were worried. (it was my first time in Italy)
"I must tell you, you've missed Dinner!"
I don't care just show me the mini-bar and where to get a slice of pizza or something.
done.
Hotel Vis a Vis, top of a hill, pool, half-board, stunning view up to Sta. Marguerita (sp)? and Rapallo.
apparently Hans Christian Anderson spent time in that town - don't know why...
it's a nice 2-3 day intro to Italy before hitting the rest of the country.
