Kathryn, Both Flamenco and Zoni are excellent swimming beaches. Flamenco can get busy at peak times, but Zoni is rarely crowded. Check out Zoni Beach House on this website. We are the only rental house that is directly on Zoni Beach. Trish

What are the peak times. Also, are there beaches that can't be reached without a car or boat and if so are those good to visit? Thanks for all your help.

High season is over, walking distance beaches depend on where you are staying.
If you pay top money, you can stay at Zoni, else choose Culebra Beach Villas, at Flamenco. Otherwise, you have to use public transport, rent a car, or go by boat to Culebrita or Luis Pena.
There is nothing else. If you are looking for nude beaches, pay top money again and stay at El Conquistador.

Nice stay...

Which beach is better for swimming (clear water, nice sand) Flamenco or Zoni. Money no option where would you suggest a couple stay on their honeymoon.

The only beach you can reach without a car is Flamenco...public transportation is very good there. You will need a car to get to the other beaches, including Zoni. Both are great, sandy beaches with clear water for swimming. Also some snorkeling at Zoni (and can walk to good snorkeling at Flamenco). There are more people at Flamenco and also more services (some food kiosks, I believe now a restaurant?) Zoni's main attraction in addition to unspoiled beach is solitude. Expect more people if coming in July. Feel free to email me if you have more questions. I am biased in favor of Zoni! Trish (zonibeachhouse@aol.com)

Zoni is largely uninhabited, and any place out on the east end would be nice and private for honeymooners. Did you check out culebraislandrealty.com yet? Look at Casita Zoni. My hubby and I stayed there once, and felt like we had the whole eastern end of the island to ourselves (in June). As Trish said, July will be a little busy, there being a holiday every weekend. But still, it's less crowded than anytime Jan - March. Enjoy!

Happy Diving!
Debbie

I have been once to Culebra and am returning to the same place; Villa Flamenco Beach; contact Esmeralda at esmer@coqui.net; check out on the web at < http://www.culebra-island.com/CulebraIsland/Places_to_Stay/Villa_Flamenco_Beach/villa_flamenco_beach.htm >; Not to be confused with Flamenco Beach Villas, next door; VFB is small and calm; Get the upstairs efficiency (air conditioned); the beach is one of the best in the world according to magazines; waves vary from itty bitty, kids are safe, to very good body surfing (I am most familiar with North Carolina Outer Banks, not California surfing); the wave variety is at the same time depending on where you are on the beach; it is small waves in front of VFB and good surf a 3-4 minute walk down the beach. It is a short walk (25 minutes) over the hill to a wonderful easy snorkeling beach that is frequently deserted. Not much to do on the Island except relax, eat, honeymoon, etc. Don't go if you want big hotel experience. If interested, email me and I can give you a better idea and pictures (the ones on the website don not do it justice)

Kathryn,
Debbie is right on the money. Zoni is the place to stay for a your honeymoon. Contact culebraislandrealty.com. There are some great houses at great deals. Since you will be going in July there are off season rates and you will avoid the crowds. July is a huge month in Puerto Rico with four weekends being holiday ventures for them. I have stayed at Casa Marbella which is a gem. It sits only a few hundred yards above Zoni and the master bedroom looks right over the beach. I have been visiting Culebra for five years now and have rented a home each year. You will need a car though. If money is no problem rent a car and I can tell you how to get to some of the beaches that you won't see anyone all day. Also there is a little beach around the corner of Zoni that is secluded and spectacular. E-mail me back if you want more info.
ENJOY!
RJ
