First Culebra Trip Questions

Hello all,
I am enjoying all the info on this forum.You are all so helpful,special hand to J.Guzman,don't know you but i see you take care to answer people as best as possible and with a positive attitude.
My friends and I will be travelling to Culebra in mid march,unfortunately mostly through the week,missing the Sat. night at Mamasita's which sounds like a good time.Is there much going on during the week in town?
Do you think we need to make reservations or could we cruz in and find a place when we get there.I prefer not to plan to far ahead.
Also,any thoughts on what the weather may be like in mid march?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

As I see it, on week days the line in the ferry is less, however,
Reservation is a must during high season, which is now.
Mamacitas is very good, but I rather stay at Villa Boheme, not to lessen Mamacitas lodging.
If you are getting into the ferry, be there at least 1 1/2 hour before 0900, no matter if it is week day.
Thank you for your appreciation, wish I have a boat now...
Try to get to Culebrita, and spend a day there.
There are not shades, or sun blocking shadows, but I'm sure you'll like it.

We just returned last night and I'm still on island time. We camped @ Flamenco but on the last night wanted a night in a hotel in town so it would be easier to get to the airport (we ended up walking yesterday @ 6AM, which was wonderful - I'm a hiker so I love to walk). We found a room easily @ the Kokomo for $50. Very basic. I knew other people this week who found rooms in town at the last minute. After reading these forums I had the impression the island was just booked up through the spring, but found completely the opposite after being there. As to the ferry, never saw one even half way full, we took three total (Fajardo to Vieques and back again and then Fajardo to Culebra). They don't sell tickets more than .5 hour ahead anyhow, so I don't see where all the warnings about full ferries and being there hours ahead is warranted. We also saw a couple get on the 6PM cargo ferry a few nights ago (after getting stranded by a taxi that never showed to pick them up from their day trip to Flamenco), Willy taxied a bunch of us in that evening and managed to get these folks on @ 6:15 as the cargo ferry left.

iow, from what I saw on both islands, you certainly can play things by ear if you don't want to super plan it ahead of time. There were always jeeps in the rentals lots and scooters.

That makes me feel alot better.I am more likely to go day by day but my travel friends not so much.
Any tips or must see's?We are going in 3 weeks. And was it hard to just walk the island?

the island is 2 miles X 7 miles. It depends on how much you like to walk? Flamenco beach is 3 miles from town. All of town is walkable. Zoni is not really walkable. Many will offer you rides. The sun is getting hot now so don't forget your hat.

February and March are dry months ( there is always chance for exceptions ) At Mamacitas and Dinghy Dock, there is always a space for relaxing, but not until very late on weekdays.
Culebra is very slow moving, that means that everyting takes some time.
Walking to Flamenco is a gooood long walk, but if walking is your preference you will feel good, I have seen many people walking there.
Zoni beach is less crowded, and it is beatiful, with a view of Cayo Norte, and St. Thomas, and on the hill before getting there you can see Culebrita too.
When going to Zoni, take your water and snaks if you plan to stay a while, there are not places to buy munchies there.
The best investment of time and money in Culebra, is to have, rent, or charter a boat.

David, I noticed you posted on culebra.org a long time ago that you were renting your house and vehicle. I was wondering if this is still the case and if so, if you would have anything available March 17-23. Just wondering. Thanks, Aaron
