You do need a boat to get to some of the better snorkeling sites around Culebra. If you are 25 or older, have experience with small motorboats, and can read a nautical chart, you can rent a motorboat from my company, Culebra Boat Rental.
You can then enjoy snorkeling on the reefs around Culebra (Culebrita, Cayo Norte, Luis Pena, and La Pelá). You will also have quick and easy access to the reefs around the Culebra "mainland" (Carlos Rosario, Tamarindo, Punta Melones, and Punta Soldado).
Our motorboats are well equipped; with life jackets, a bimini for protection from sun and rain, a board-mounted chart of Culebra and the surrounding islets, a swim platform and ladder, a cooler, a cellular phone, and operating instructions for the motor.
Especially for snorkelers, the board-mounted chart shows moorings and anchorages at coral reefs and it has photos of the seaward approaches to the reefs.
Snorkeling gear is available to rent or buy from the dive shop located next to us. We are on the north side of the town of Dewey, across from the school.
See www.culebraboatrental.com for more information, and you can call me toll free at 866 210-0709 (787 742-3559 locally) or email me at cboatrent@aol.com.
