Hola! Yes you can use traveler's checks for purchases at places such as the mall, supermarkets, big stores. Most gas stations will not take them, you'll have a hard time finding a gas station that will. Small grocery stores as well as small retail stores will not take them either. It's not worth the hassle. It's better to have a Mastercard or Visa and take your ATM card to withdraw cash. There are usually banks everywhere and Banco Popular is on Culebra. Some places take American Express , too , no Discover card though. If you stop at a roadside stand or a food kiosk, they will want cash. We've always used our credit cards and ATM card without any trouble. Happy travels! J
