I believe camping is only legal at Flamenco, if you're crafty and determined you may be able to get away with it elsewhere. but be advised most of the island is designated nature preserve with an extremely fragile ecosystem.
at Flamenco go down the beach to the left for fewer people, although unless you're there on a holiday or a weekend it's going to be fairly quiet anyway.
less populated beaches include Carlos Rosario 'cause of the hike required (and well worth the effort BTW) go about halfway down the beach and you're in this beautiful bowl of coral - there's a lot sea urchins at the entrance to the beach.
I've never seen more than about 10 people on Zoni 'cause of the drive - keep walking North and around the outcrop of rocks if you really want to get away. trust me.
In any case there really isn't any stress to be found, except when you try to order a burger at el Batey during the regular lunch hour (go late or wait, it's really good)
