Hi All...
I am new to this forum... I was lucky to find this website while browsing info on Culebra. We are a group of 6 people visiting San Juan on June 9th (night) to take a cruise on the June 11th. So we are planning to see places in San Juan, Culebra and Vieques on sat and sun morning. Can any of you suggest the best way to cover all these places. We are not very much interested in snorkeling.

Is the biolumni bay in Vieques good? how long is this tour?

Any input is very much appreciated.

Far be it for me to rain on somebody's fun ... but that sounds like a lot to accomplish in a pretty short time. I think the biggest obstacle you will face is transportation. Perhaps if you could arrange for flights, it MIGHT be possible. But to do both Culebra and Vieques in one day (Saturday, June 10th) might be stretching. Plus there is a lot to see in Old San Juan. Perhaps others can chime in with their thoughts.

ps -- Let us know how you make out ... perhaps it could be put into a touring book like those "Unofficial" Disney Guides that show you how to tour the theme parks efficiently!!

i think you are going to have make a choice between visiting Old San Juan ,culebra or vieques. if you are not interested in snorkeling i would recommend visiting old San Juan during the day of June 10th and then arranging the vieques bio-bay tour with east island excursions. they operate out of fajardo. you can either fly to fajardo from the isla grande airport, rent a car, pre arrange for a taxi BOTH WAYS( FINDING A TAXI IN FAJARDO 10:30PM IN FAJARDO WILL BE DIFFUCULT IF YOU DO NOT PRE ARRANGE. the vieques bio bay tour leaves out of fajardo at around 5:00pm you will go vieques by high speed catamaran. when you get thee you will go by van to a local rest. for dinner then they will take the van to the bay where your electric motor tour will begin you will also be offered the opportunity to swim in the glowing water. (this is a an absolute must -do/see while visiting puerto Rico) after the tour you go back to fajardo by catamaran arriving there around 10:oopm then you must get your self back to where you will be staying. in my opinion 1 days is just not enough to experience old San Juan and the sister islands culebra and vieques ! sorry! if you really want to do the bio-bay tour try spending one nite in San Juan and on the 10th spend the nite at the fajardo inn in fajardo. what time does your ship leave ?? here is the website for east wind excursions

Vacation Island girl...
Is it possible for us to leave Fajardo on Sat morning to Culebra by ferry and spend half a day there and go to Vieques from Culebra ...have fun at Bio Bay and return back to Fajardo that night. Then we can take a look at San Juan on sunday morning...
(1) You think this is doable?
(2) Also is there a ferry from Culebra to Vieques (I read some posts that they cancelled it some time back).
(3) How long will it take for the trips between these islands?

The itinerary as you described is not doable. You could feasibly visit Culebra and Vieques in the same day, however airplane flights would be the only practical way to do that. I do not believe that these flights are overly expensive. However returning from Vieques to Fajardo after dark (after the Bio Bay) is not possible.

A much more practical itinerary would be to enjoy a longer day at Culebra, skip Vieques and visit the Bio Bay near Fajardo, which I understand is quite good also.

Sorry to drop some more rain on the parade, but I believe the moon is full on June 11th. If that helps narrow your decisions, I don't think you are supposed to do the bio-bay that close to a full moon. Sorry!

hi wega...... let's start with the sites of ols San Juan there is much to and lots to see. there are 4 main sections
1. plaza San Jose offers

San Juan museum

2. plaza de armas

San Juan city hall
San Juan cathedral
San Juan gate
the mansion la Fortaleza
cristo chapel
la casa Del libro-museum
casa de Ramon power y giralt

3. plaza darsenas

la princesa- tourist headquarters
park at San Juan bay
casa don q- rum museum

4. plaza colon
tapia theater
el casino
pharmacy museum
museum of the 19yh century puerto rican family

plus many shops and rests. it is very pretty here and the walking tour will take at least 3-4 hrs


does this sounds like some thing you want to do ? also where are you staying ??

the ferry to culebra i believe leaves at 9:00 am and you need to be at the ferryport at least 1hr before it is due to leave, as you can not pre- buy ferry tickets and it will be very busy on the weekend, there is no longer a ferry that runs between culebra and vieques. you also need to be at the ferryport in 1hr before it leaves culebra to fajardo, for the same reason, and if you can not get on the ferry that leaves from culebra you will most likely be stuck there overnite. i think if you choose not to tour old san juan you'd do better to change you hotel reservation from san juan to staying at the fajardo inn on the 9th and 10th of june. www.fajardoinn.com by doing this you will not have to leave for fajardo 6:00am on saturday. also you might be able to see the bio bay in fajardo on fri or sat nite ! i do not believe you are giong to be able to have time for trips to both vieques and culebra on the same day ! oh and by the way it will take 1 1/2-2hrs to get to culebra by ferry !

Thanks a lot guys... this info really helps a lot... but we kind of changed our mind to skip both Culebra & Vieques and spend time in San Juan.
