Does anyone know if you can do this on the Island? Details?

You can do it... as far as you have a good boat.
There are no boats for that purpose in Culebra.
Maybe Club Nautico has a boat with enough power to do that... still you need about 400.00 or more for the day, plus a captain.

Well, any boat from Culebra Boat Rental would have enough power. You would need skis and I am not sure Butch (the owner) allows it. Try Culebra Water Toys.

Enjoy Culebra!

You sure do not know what water skiing is... for that, you need a boat that runs at least 35MPH.
Culebra Boat Renal has boats with 35 or 50HP motors, and that is not enough by far.

Do not take chances, everyone is trying to sell, they do not care if you are satisfied or not.

Jose, as you said, it depends on the speed, not necessarily the power of the boat. I personally have seen people water-ski behind sailboats - albeit very fast ones :)

For your regular use, a 25hp engine and an inflatable is more than sufficient for a water start (which is were you need the most power).

I pretty much depends on the overall weight and drag of the boat and skier cmbined. The more efficient the boat, the less power you need. Granted, in PR people tend to have heavier boats, which are overpowered.

For a novice I would actually recommend a boat that does not have too much hp. It will get you out of the water a little gentler, albeit slower ..

just my 2c

not even mentioning that I think water skiing as well as jet skis should be banned :) - they are only fun if you are doing it, but everything else but enjoyable for the rest who want to enjoy Culebra's most valuable resource!

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael
