looking for Culeba expert!
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi- my husband and I are planning a trip to Culebra in March 06 and have a few questions- we are hoping we can find someone to give us a little expert advice...We would like to stay close to town so that we don't have to rent a vehicle the whole time(we are planning on renting a couple of days to explore the island) but we'd like to be able to walk to restauarants and dive shop (one of main reasons we're coming) and if possible to a beach or place to snorkel/sunbathe if we choose.
Is this possible? Is there a location where we could be close to the above mentioned options- within walking distance? Also- we would like to go over to Vieques for 2 days at the end of our trip and then back to San Juan after that to fly out...kind of make a loop. Any advice on the easiest way to go about this?
Obviously many questions...hopefully someone out there wouldn't mind lending their expertise and advice...thanks in advance!

Get Villa Boheme, a wonderful place, not expensive, and close to all restaurants, but a little away from Flamenco.
There you will find PUBLIC TV, and Kitchen, water front, and a place to chat and relax.

For something a little more upscale and private than Villa Boheme, contact Culebra Island Realty. (see Shelter on this site).

Specifically, look at a lovely house called Casa Pueblo:

It is quaint, has a small view of the bay, it's own private one-lane lap pool, and fruit trees, and you can walk everywhere! We stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it.

Good luck!

Happy Diving!

Sundie,

There are plenty of places around town to stay.
however, flamenco beach is 10 minutes by car
and zoni is 20 minutes.
i know there is van transportation to flamingo though
for a fee.

There is very good public tranxportation, the only place some are reluctant to take you is ZONI.
However, that was some time go, maybe the road was repaired and the problem is over, but still very steep.

Well, now, that's an interesting comment from someone who lives there and rents a guesthouse.

What is it you think we are trying to "sell?" I myself am not profiting by telling people about places I have stayed, and services I have used on the island, and I doubt Capt. Guzman is profting from the advice he gives out.

Happy Diving!

Great choice! Accomodations in town are reasonable and down right cheap compared to other Carribean islands. Not much to spend money on, the food is not very expensive. You should get a rental car so you can get to all the beaches and good spots. And book diving trips way in advance. Those will be the only things you will spend money on. Don't be too thrifty or you will not maximize your holiday time. Jerry's Jeeps and Carlos Rental Cars are good options for vehicles.
