Trip to Biobay?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We are thinking of going to Culebra over New Years. I am wondering whether there are any organized trips from Culebra to Vieques to tour the Biobay, or if it is possible to hire a boat to go (we are a family of 4). This will be our fourth time visiting in Culebra, we adore it, and I would rather not have to stay in Vieques just for the sake of seeing the Biobay if it is possible to stay again in Culebra and just go for an evening to see it. Does anyone have any information?

Thanks!

Valerie

There are no trips from Culebra to Vieques, to Biobay, and back.
Since the biobay must be seen at night, a stay in Vieques is a must.
It is possible to make some arrangements to that purpose, but they will be very expensive. If willing to spend that kind of money, contact Casa del Mar at Hotel Conquistador, or you may find charter at Puerto del rey.
In Culebra you may find boats for rent, but only for close to the coast enjoyment, not as to go to Vieques and back.
In Vieques there is no Gasoline for boats.

Thanks very much for the advice. I think we may just go to stay in Vieques, for a change, and expand our horizons.

I highly recommend staying in Vieques for part of your trip. The biobay experience is incredible. Be sure to be prepared to go in the water though. If possible, spend a few nights on Vieques. I think you'll love it!

Thanks. Does anyone have an opinion about which is better, the kayak biobay tour, or the electric boat biobay tour?

Did the biobay trip from culebra last month. We tried on a Monday, when we missed the high speed ferry. Turns out they discontinued service forever that day. The direct public ferry also had discontinued (some say repairs, others lack of patrons, all say don't hold your breath waiting for it to resume). Anyway, went via Fajardo. Arrived late afternoon. Stayed at Bananas ($55 no AC, $80 with) Hotel was great; two doors from kayak tour office. Kayak tour was full, but tagged along anyway. We waded and swam while the kayaks went their way. It was awesome! Returned next day. All in all, was cheaper than staying on Culebra for the day. Good luck!

Hi !!!

I had the same interest as you about going to the Bio Bay from Culebra and I found that Capt. Gami from Culebra Water Toys does it for $100 p/p with a minimum of 4 people, his phone number is 787-246-1718 and also in their website. Also the people from Culebra Ocean View provide the service for $100 with a minimum of 6 people you can reach them at culebraoceanview@yahoo.com

It's very important that by the time you do the trip there's no full mon.

We encountered the same situation. Luckily we were being taken to the ferry landing by the owner of Carlos' Jeep who talked to the locals for us, called around and finally took us back to the airport to get a direct flight (instead of the one through Fajardo). We took Air Flamenco to Vieques from Culebra and back. It cost us 50 r/t per person. It was so much better than any boat ride. The trip takes ten minutes and you get such beautiful views of both islands.
