thinking about moving to culebra

Author: lindsay mapes (---.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net) Date:   04-09-05 21:48 i am a painter and i live in san francisco. i've been out in california for 10 years now and i am wanting to make a major move. i really would like to find a small relaxing island to move to so i can work on my paintings. i was wondering how hard would it be to find a place to rent to live in for a while (6-8 months) maybe longer? and what are prices like? also are there any art supply stores there, probably i would bring alot of my own too. i would love some info and help... thanks

US mail gets here for the same price as the continuous states, so that should not be a problem! long term rental on the other hand ... Enjoy Culebra! Michael

Having a place to live seemed to be the biggest issue for me, with getting a job coming in 2nd. I am skilled in many things so I should be ok making enough money to survive, but for most people that are only skilled in few areas, making a living would be the hardest thing about moving there. From what I learned, getting a boat and living on it, seemed to be the easiest and cheapest route. Much more hassle, but with it you avoid the higher costs of rental. Plus it can be used to go to some of the other Islands and such. I decided not to move there at this time, but possibly do it after a few years when I have gotten some things in order and have purchased a boat. If you do move there Lindsey, let us know how it works out.

We stayed at posada de hammaca by the canal. rented scooters to go to flamenco beach, which is in the top ten beaches in the WORLD! Not many places to eat, but there are a few. I really miss the Medalla beer. Locals are very friendly as are the girls you meet at Flamenco beach camping out at night. Some of the best snorkling and scuba diving to be found anywhere. we talked to a builder who was doing a modular home inland on the island. he stated that if you could buy the property to build on(which you can't) the entire layout similar to the one he was doing would come to $1.5 to $2.5 million u.s. pretty steep. david m reasin
