Tickets for ferry

Will it be a problem to get a ticket for the ferry on Saturday morning? I read somewhere that is really hard to get tix on the weekend. Is there any way to get a ticket in advance?

Sorry, but you can't get tickets in advance...in this way everyone have the same oportunity to be in the ferry. I don't think that will be a problem to get tickets on Saturday morning...but remember that's depend of the weekend and to be sure be early in the morning at the dock.

I was just there on Saturday, May 17th. You have to get to the ferry by at least 7:30. We had no problem, but we arrived at 7:00 for the 9:00 ferry that actually left at about 9:45. It takes about an hour and a half to get to Culebra.

Also, note that if you are planning to go anywhere other than the public area of Flamenco Beach, you will not get a taxi for almost two hours. The local taxis strictly cater to those going to that section of the beach. The taxis go back and forth, jamming as many in a taxi as possible. When they finish with that, they will take you where you want to go.

Culebra was beautiful, but they are not big on service. My best advice is to warn anyone looking for a place to stay to not make reservations at the Culebra Beach Villas at Flamenco Beach. Absolutely the worst accomadations imagineable. I am going to spend some significant hours writing to Puerto Rican officials about their operation and the way its presented in their web site. They charged $125 for a studio that was a complete dump. Local residents seem to be very much aware that this place is the pits.

Somos aproximadamente 14 personas en familia que llevamos cuatro años vacacionando en Culebra. 6 se van en dos lanchas privadas y llegan primero y los demas viajamos en el Ferry. Podriamos comprar los tickets par de días antes y no tener que amanecernos allí el día de la partida.

As it turns out you definitely have to be there early! We landed late in San Juan on Fiday night the 16th and had a late start on Saturday morning. We arrived at the ferry terminal at exactly 9:00 and missed that ferry. There were so many people still waiting for the ferry that they ended up putting people who wanted to go to Culebra on a ferry that went to Vieques first. We missed that as well. They added another ferry at 10:00 and the people in the line in front of us got the last 2 tickets. So we had to wait until the 2:30 ferry. It was fine though. We took our car out of the parking area and drove arounf fajardo for a little while.

We're planning a trip in the end of March. Our flight gets in to San Juan at 2:20 and we either plan on flying to Culebra ( which may be expensive) or taking a taxi to the ferry dock. Will we be able to get on a ferry that day?

Los boletos para viajar en la lancha o en el ferry-boat son adquiribles ida y vuelta solamente saliendo desde Culebra porque son, más bien, como un privilegio para los residentes permanentes de la Islita. Pero esto no es posible para el visitante porque la Autoridad de los Puertos no ha ingeniado un sencillo plan de venta de boletos ida/vuelta desde Fajardo-Culebra-Fajardo por alguna razón que nunca hemos podido entender.

Pero es lamentable que un visitante no pueda garantizar su regreso desde el mismo Fajardo.

Yo, personalmente recomiendo estar en la Terminal de Fajardo dos horas antes de la salida de la lancha para poder estar en la fila de la Taquilla para comprar el boleto a tiempo. Hay ocasiones en que se termina la venta de boletos, creando inconvenientes a los visitantes que desean viajar.

Recomiendo también obtener un Itinerario actualizado, porque hay ocasiones en que la Autoridad de los Puertos añade viajes adicionales, especialmente durante los fines de semana largos.

Anote el teléfono de la Autoridad de los Puertos en Culebra, porque le puede ser de mucha utilidad (si es que no le suena ocupado todo el tiempo): (787) 742-3161
