My husband & I just returned from our vacation at Tamarindo Beach Cottages, and wanted to share our wonderful experience with you. We were there for a week (May 24-31) for our 5-year anniversary, and had a fun, relaxing time. There are so many unique, beautiful beaches to visit and the snorkeling was incredible. We highly recommend Tamarindo Estates because the staff was friendly and helpful, the cottage was clean and had everything we needed: AC, full kitchen, and deck with gorgeous views of Luis Pena island. We had a jeep to get us around the island, and recommend the following activities:
Snorkel at Carlos Rosario: 40 ft. wall of fascinating coral reefs and colorful fish. Hike or drive (Jeep) there from Flamenco Beach's entrance.
Kayak to Luis Pena Island from Tamarindo Beach: Pick a calm day, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy "Honeymoon" Beach on the other side of the island.
Hike to Brava Beach: We saw deer, thousands of butterflies, and a large lizard on this trail and were the only people on the beach :)
Take the Tanama Glass Bottom Boat Trip to Culebrita with Capt. Pat: She is a wonderful person and great "island guide"! View the reefs through the bottom of her boat, and then hike to Tortuga Bay - a wonderful place to swim and explore.
Eat dinner at Barbara Rosa's: The locals hangout here (near the airport), and the food is fresh and tasty. However, wear long pants or mosquito repellant.
Boogie-board the waves at Flamenco Beach around 5-6:30pm: Go to the right when you arrive at the beach and you will see perfectly rolling waves for boogie-boarding. We took small rafts and had a blast!
We hope to return to this magnificent island someday!
The weather was perfect: high 80's everyday, with no rain.
The locals were friendly and helpful, and the overall experience was great.
Have fun on your trip!
