isla nena airlines

Where the heck are they? I've been calling for days at all times and can't get any flight info.

Is it better (and easier) to just take a taxi to Isla Grande and take Air Flamenco or VAL??

Any opinions would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I do not know their number, but you should try the Fajardo airport.
I will be good to get to Isla Grande RIBBAS DOMINICCI, as the last alternative.
Maybe if you look at the TRANSPORT AREA of this forum, you might get something else.

Hope this helps.

I hate to spread a rumor, but my friends on Culebra mentioned to me that they heard Isla Nena was grounded. Please check with airport officials or FAA, before taking this as fact. Apparently this isn't all that rare an occurance; Air Flamenco was grounded some years back, but has re-emerged. The strangest thing about it, is that Isla Nena's equipment is the most modern.

Yikes! I have reservations in early Feb on Isla Nena. I guess I need to check with them to make sure all is well. Any updates on this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Isla Nena is flying on an as needed basis. When it's busy you will see them flying. They are also flying cargo I believe. We had a situation last month where the water and electric was out and the ferry hadn't run for days. The airport was packed and isla nena decided to make some fast cash and ran continues runs. If you have a reservation you should be all set.

I've seen Islan Nena everyday flying over the house. Several times. I also see their counter being kept at the culebra airport. Sounds like they are up and running again.

3 years ago on my first trip to Culebra I was booked on VAL from Isla Grande, a 15 minute, $20 cab ride from the San Juan airport. My flight from Newark was delayed 3 hours and I missed my VAL flight. I called and they said "no problem" and put me on the next day's aftenoon flight. No extra charge or anything. Ever since then I've only used VAL and have never had a problem. They have my loyalty.
Last year, flying over Puerto Rico through a light rain we flew through a complete rainbow, a perfect arc with the strongest colors I've ever seen in a rainbow. It was like flying through the gates of heaven and the most glorious experience I ever had in a plane. VAL didn't charge extra for that either. The people who work for them are really nice and the pilots have always done a great job. Flying to Culebra is a wonderful experience and I think the $92 round trip airfare is a bargain.

I just took Isla Nena a couple of days ago. They keep banker's hours- 9-5 CST. they are more expensive than the other airlines, but I found them very professional. Ask for Noemi-- she was very helpful to us.

I agree with julie - I'm coming to Culebra for the first time on Thursday, and I'm going to fly on Isla Nena from San Juan. Isla Nena's people have been very professional, curteous, and efficient everytime I called. I actually just got off the phone confirming my reservation with them! You can call them at 787-863-4447 or 4449.

Does Isla Nena stick to their schedule or are they way off? I am coming in June and my plane arrives at 1:40. Since they leave out of the International Airport, I shouldn't have a problem making the connection to their 3:00 flight. I won't have any checked luggage to pick up, just 1 carry-on.

I believe this flights from SJU, are carried out when full.
It is easier to go to Fajardo airport, there the flights, whatever the airline, get full faster than any other airport.
The reason for that is that most people take the planes in Fajardo, including locals, and for a plan B there is the ferry 10 minutes drive from airport.

When connecting to Isla Nena you do have to leave airport security in order to reach their counter and check in. It's not a long walk, though, from side by side terminals. You will have to go through security again.

I've flown Isla Nena before and they usually don't stick to their midday (around noon flight) but I've never missed their afternoon flight. It helps to keep their phone numbers handy and to call them when you get off your flight.

I'm planning on going in June which is the off season. I wonder how this will effect their flight schedules. I don't want to get into a situation where they can't give me a commitment on whether they ae going to fly or not. I want to take their 3:00 flight but I'd like to know if I need to take the 4:30 Flameco Air flight from Isla Grande.

I've found Isla Nena to be a little flaky regarding schedules, so I would say you have a valid concern. Also, if your flight is running late for whatever reason you would be in a time crunch. Isla Grande is easy to get to by cab from San Juan Int'l. Air Flamenco would be my choice in your situation.

My wife and I just spent a week in Culebra. We took air Flamenco and had no problems. It was a very easy flight and a short taxi ride to get to the plane. I would fly with them any time and were always helpful when I called them.

We flew Air Flamenco March '04 and Vieques Air Link Jan '05.
Both were very professional, great pilots, good planes, no problems!

This is the phone number we booked our flight on about 2 weeks ago. Some days they answer some days they don't, but this is the only one I ever got through too.

Their service once we got there was a different story. Once we got to San Juan, there was no one at the ticket counter. Our flight was to leave at 5:00 and no one showed up at the ticket counter until 4:50. The guys kinda seemed like they were just taking there time, talking to thier buddies and our flight didn't finally leave until almost 6:00. I was somewhat disappointed because I had hoped to see the island in broad daylight to orient myself.

Once we actually got on the plane, this is when the "excitement" really began. We had never flown on a small plane before, so the fact it shook around more than your usual jet had us a little nervous. Keep in mind, no one from the company has really even talked to us to this point. When we walked up to the counter, he just held his hand out for our paper work and when they walked us out to the plane, they just pointed us where to go. Then, about ten minutes into our flight while we were still flying over the mainland, we start hearing a beeping noise. We had no idea what it was, but tried to stay cool. About a minute later, the pilot cuts the engine back about 50% and the plane starts going down. At this point my girlfriend was freaking out and I was pretty scared myself. The plane continues to descend pretty rapidly for at least a full minute while all we can see is an open field. I figure, "wow, were going to crash land, we might die" Not really what I was expecting to do on my caribbean vacation. At the last minute out of no where we see a little tiny runway and proceed to land and pick up another couple, just to take back off and land in Culebra 15 minutes later.

Now I have no problem stopping somewhere, but they should have let us know. We were scared to death and thier professionalism was non-existent. Everywhere else we went on Culebra, people were very friendly and helpful (except for one waitress at the Dinghy Dock) and we had a great time other than that. The views were great, but if we went again, I think we would just take the new ferry from San Juan. It probably would have been just as fast for as long as we waited around for Isla Nena, and I doubt we would have nearly had heart attacks. Have fun on your trip, but I don't think I'd fly with Isla Nena again. Thanks.

I will say the people we talked to on the phone before we actually went on our trip, were very helpful. But the people that dealt with us once we arrived, were the complete opposite.
