This is a proposed small hotel three buildings down from Mamacitas
where that little arte store is.
Those mangroves and that area are really rare
and this is a corp. trying to build a hotel there.
Besides the protection due the mangroves our crowded streets cannot sustain this type of construction.

This is off islanders trying to cash in on Culebra

I love the art store. It sells totally cool tee-shirts. And it looks cool too. No way!! I'm sick of evil corporations coming in and sucking the life out of everything. People come to Culebra to get away from this kind of stuff. Now they want to come in and wreck Culebra too. I say no way! Not gonna let it happen.

Eviction notice? That sounds serious. I hope he has a lawyer to represent him. I'm sure there are some that visit Culebra, perhaps one can help.

There are, thankfully, lawyers who are involved. None of this happens by wishful thinking and there are those who work harder than anyone might imagine to try and right the wrongs, here, as everywhere else.

Today is the last day Jorge will be on the premises. Whether or not the hotel is allowed is still undecided. A sad day for Culebra.

Wow man, that's terrible. I was really looking forward to going back to the arte store. I was planning to head back in March or April. I wanted to check out the sanctuary and buy some of Jorge's artwork. I missed my chance back in June. Is he going to open another store? I hope so.

And yes, Jorge is totally laid back and cool. We also wish him the best and will continue to support his efforts. I hope he is able to save his business. Perhaps open an Arte Store II somewhere close by.

I have no idea of his future plans, sorry! But the party tonight was good (I'm sure it's still going on, I go home early) and very positive in a sad situation. I'll ask him when I see him what comes next.

Sad to see the Arte studio torn down. I hope the developers sink a lot of money into the mud and leave without ever building.

Rumor is that Jorge will be opening a new studio above Dinghy Dock restaurant someday.

Yes, I imagine it is a sad sight to see the shop torn down. There is a nice picture of the shop near the bottom of the page on this web site http://culebrablog.com/category/zoni-beach/ Now that Mamacita's is open again, is Jorge's band playing there on Saturday nights again?

We visited Jorge's new place. It is beautiful. Bought a couple paintings and reminisced about the old place. Jorge showed us a newspaper showing the old place torn down (sad) and reporting how a small group of college kids camped out in the mangroves so the destroyers could not tear down the mangroves! Raise a glass to those audacious kids! I can't thank them enough, the next thing you know the destroyers don't have the permits they need and the whole project is off. Ha! They get what they deserve. The area is fenced off for now and the mangroves are safe, for now. Perhaps Jorge's Arte Shop will be back one day. Something is happening at the old Mamacitas, I think a new restaurant is opening there.
