Ferry tickets to Fajardo

Hello, we will be flying to Culebra in mid June and staying for a week. Could anyone tell me if getting ferry tickets for the 1pm on Thursday back to Fajardo would be difficult? I would like to buy them as soon as we arrive, is that possible? Thanks.

Hello Jeff, it should not be difficult to leave on a Thursday back to Fajardo on the 1:00pm ferry. As for buying in advance, it would depend what time you'd be flying into Culebra. I believe the ticketing booth opens at 12:00pm to start selling the 1:00pm tickets.

Jeff,

It's difficult to buy tickets ahead of time and when I took the ferry back last year to fajardo, I did it on a weekend and it was a circus. Since it's a Thursday, you should be okay. Allow extra time for your travels just in case. I"m flying in and out this year from san juan and we're excited to skip all the ferry travel and driving. If this is your first time to Culebra, take it easy, relax, and go with the flow. You're trip will be awesome.

You can purchase your ticket ahead of time in Culebra at the ticket office. You just have to catch them when they are open. When I stopped by last week one morning at 10:00am they said they were open every day from 8:30am -> 10:30am. Needless to say it was 10:00am and they were closed. I shopped around for a while and went back around 11:15am and they were open. I got a round trip from Culebra to Fajardo. The Culebra ferry went on time at 1:00pm. They will print the round trip on one ticket. So make sure the ticket guy only takes the stub and leaves you the ticket for the return. The return a week later in Fajardo was for 3:00pm. Hurry up and got on only to wait. 4:00 came. 5:00pm came and still sitting in port. They started her up at 5:10pm and we had an electrical fire. Evacuated that ferry. And it's really hot sitting there for hours melting. Got on another ferry pulled from moth balls and departed at 6:00pm. Trip took ~2.5 hours. Got to see sunset at 7:00 and then stars.

Thank you everyone for the feedback it was very helpful. Also, thank you to Geronimo it is good to know you can buy tickets in advance. We bought tickets for the 1pm ferry on Friday. We went to the ticket booth around noon and the line was short. The ferry left on time and the trip to Fajardo was pleasant and only took about an hour. We stayed at the Tamarindo Estates which was very private and well kept. We almost had the place to ourselves. We rented from Jerry’s Jeeps. We just can’t say enough good things about Jerry, he was very helpful and always available to answer questions, give directions, and get us acquainted with everything Culebra has to offer. We stayed for a week and could have easily stayed for two. We had a wonderful time. Culebra has become our secret getaway.

Oh and by the way we flew on VAL from San Juan to Culebra and the flight was absolutely fantastic.
