Hi
Was wondering if I could get some info. I'm getting married may 5th on flamenco, and my fiancee is getting on me to get some plans together. So I guess I'll just ask. Does your hubby do paid gigs (for our reception at mamacitas)? Is there a person that perform the wedding on the island? And dunno if you you can answer this, but you said the folks at Aquatic Adventures got married there -- do you think I could call them and talk to them? I feel kind of uncomfortable calling a buisiness about something not related to business. Sorry to ask, but there are few informative sites about culebra

Yo comprendo just fine.

Hubby does paid gigs in Atlanta, and I'm sure he could be talked into getting himself to Culebra next May if there was a paying gig there. You might also talk to Amy Jo -http://www.amyjosings.com/ who has regular gigs around Culebra.

CALL Taz and Ann, and tell them I told you to. As with everyone on Culebra, they are used to giving out information to whomever regarding whatever. Also, I believe Vacation Planners does some wedding planning. Plenty of people get married at Flamenco; you're not asking for anything out of the ordinary. http://www.culebravacationplanners.com/

On a side note, I didn't know you were from GA -- I assumed you were a local. However, if you and your husband need an exuse to head to Culebra, we're looking for a band to play at our reception. I looked at the sites you posted (thanks again), but like I said, if you need an excuse....

You should start looking into this as early as possible. The marriage requirements/steps are written in Spanish. I know at least 10 years ago it had a blood test requirement that needed to be performed on each one of you for STD's and it needed to be signed by a doctor and dated less than a week from the wedding date. All of those docs can be given to the person marrying you and they present it to the officials for processing. Your marriage cert will be in Spanish. Also, request 5 to 10 copies of your marriage cert at that point so you will have them for future reference. It will costs you a dollar or two for a copy now but trying to get a copy 5 to 10 years down the road could pose quite a challenge. They will mail them to your home residence.

Thanks for the info, and I will be getting on it today. I was concerned that I'd have to get certified on the main isle, which may be the case, but is the cert that big of a deal? I know it needs to be certified, but you mentioned 5 to 10 copies? I'll definetly get them, but as an un-married guy I'm out of the loop -- what do you need it for? I just figured it was a formality. However, I'll be sure to take your advice and spend the $20.

Between that, arrangments for guests, finding a priest, taking a blood test, paying for it all, its a good thing I have 9 months to get out of it! Jk, thanks for all the help (all of you, thank you for your time), really I appreciate it -- apparently getting married is more than just saying "I do".

It's been a while (24 years), but you need the marriage certificate for any agency that needs proof of the marriage. Social Security, bank accounts, etc. come to mind. Anytime there's an official certificate (birth, marriage, death) I have learned it's a good idea to get extra copies and stick them in a safe deposit box. Cheaper and easier to do it up front than to track down the info later, especially if it's in another state or territory. Best wishes!
