Split Fare - May 2011

Flying into SJU May 11, plan to leave for Culebra May 12. Then leaving Culebra for SJU May 18. Would like to split cab fare if anyone is available for those dates from SJU to Farjardo :) We plan to take the ferry from Fajardo to Culebra and then return on the ferry. Although, I would love some feedback on recent ferry activity as some note that the ferry is best way to get across on budget, and others not the ferry is completely unreliable. We would be using the ferry on a Thursday, and then return on a Wednesday.
We have considered flying, again if we could split the fare. But I've gotten a lot of conflicting information on rates over the internet. If you could give these budget travelers some advice, we'd love to hear it. (PS - don't think we'd consider the public transit, as we've heard it is cheap but turns one hour into 4) :(

I will be camping on Culebra April 20 to May 4. I arrive in SJU at 12:00 pm. I've researched travel from SJU to Fajardo, by taxi or private vehicle, then catching a ferry. Apparently taxi cost is about $80 and ferry $2.50 each way. Problem for me is that I will be traveling down during "Holly Week" and ferry may be full. I ended up playing it safe and booked a flight on VAL. Round trip was $130. For me, this is best option because it is a "sure thing" and I will arrive on Culebra by 3:00 pm with time to get to Flamenco and set up camp before dark. Only consideration with flight is weight. Cost is .60 per pound over 24 pounds of luggage. For me, I think my camp gear etc. will weigh in at about 50lbs. Good luck to you guys!
