April 20 Charter to Culebra

Arrive in San Juan at 11:30am April 20. Interested in sharing charter to Cuebra, or in alternative, taxi to Fajardo. Am traveling alone and plan on camping out at Flamenco until May 4. While there, look forward to snorkeling, and exploring as many of Culebra's and Culebrita's beaches as possible. Would also like to visit other surrounding beaches. To keep costs down and share the fun, would like to meet others who are going to Culebra during same time. Thanks, Dave

So, given recent posts of how busy the ferryies are during Holy Week how likely am I to find a seat on the afternoon ferry of Wed. April 20th. Since I will be camping, will have one backpack. Sounds like VAL is an option at $130. Is it best not to trust ferry and go on VAL. I'm trying to keep costs down so would prefer ferry. Also getting worried about availability of camping spots. Camp ground isn't answering phone. Thank you in advance, Dave

VAL is my recommendation. See Debbie's post regarding ferry reliability. Chartering, even with a full plane will not be cheaper. Caveat: there is an additional charge for baggage in excess of the allowable weight. It was 50 cents a pound, over 24 pounds, last time I had to pay. The campground doesn't sell out - it just gets crowded. Particularly on holiday weekends.

I had heard a rumor that Flamenco will resume normal scheduled flights on Apr. 1...anyone confirm this?

You have a much better chance of grabbing a seat on a Wednesday than a day closer to the weekend. You should have no problem getting back on May 4th because it's post-Easter. And as Doug said, the campground will be crowded, but available, and after Easter, you'll probably have it to yourself.

Was able to get flight on VAL. Update on luggage cost - .60 for pounds over 24 lbs. VAL flys from Isla Grande. Is Isla Grande close to SJU? Just wondering as to travel time between two airports as I will have about hour and half after I land at SJU to get to VAL gate. So excitted about being on Culebra again!!! Thanks in advance. Dave

15 minutes in light traffic. Check in is relatively informal, so all you need to do is arrive by take-off time. You should be in good shape. If you are cutting it super close, call them on your cell and let them know you are on your way.
