alcohol cost

We have frequented St. Maarten for the past several years and have been spoiled by the inexpensive cost of alcohol both at markets and restaurants. We were just wondering how the cost on Culebra compares to the USA. Thanks!!

Price will be similar to higher than US mainland. Same Federal tax plus PR. Plus it has to be handled so many times by the time it gets to Culebra. Case of Corona mainland ~$24, there ~$34. Bar prices comporable. So it's not that bad and it's definately a third of the cost than it is at St. Barts.

When leaving SJU for the mainland you can stop at the Duty Free store to buy alcohol and stuff that is a lot cheaper than you will pay in the states.

Thanks for the reply Geronimo! What is the approximate cost for a Corona or a pina colada at a place like Mamacita's or Dinghy Dock? OH...St. Barth's! We did a day trip there once and WOW are things expensive!!! We are very excited to have stumbled across info on Culebra....which seems more "our style".

I think the beers were like $3 each. Never ordered any drinks with an umbrella. LOL Madalla or Presidante is the local beer and is usually cheaper. They are a crisp light beer. And no glass bottles at the beach if you bring a cooler.

On flamenco you can bring a plastic bottle in and buy a fifth for cheap. $12 for a local rum that I can't remember, $15 for cpt. Morgans. Its the kiosk that has nothing but liquor and beer, he just pours it into a bottle. Medalla was $1.50. We camped out for a week and maybe payed the bartenders mortgage! Dunno about much else..... $10 double Bourbon at mamacitas. Spent most of the time on beaches and hiking, don't know much about the resturaunts.
