My 11 year old son and I, his papa are looking for a habitacion for the begining of August for about 3 weeks. We want a nice place with kitchen near the water,( we both fish). I was at Flamenco beach in Feb. and that looked great. Can I find something as nice but perhaps at a better deal?
Trying to stay @ max. 100$ per night. We would like to get a scooter for our stay. We are avide snorklers.
Please help.

Hi, Daniel. Take a look at our condo in the "Shelter $$" section on this site or visit us at http://www.casablancacondo.com. Our condo is near the water (1 block west) and we have a fully equipped kitchen. We also have a Nintendo 64 player that you son will enjoy during those quite evenings. For the month of August, our rate is $99 per night; but because you are planning to stay for 3 weeks, we will offer you a 14.2% discount. Contact us if you are interested.

Enjoy Culebra!

John

Hi Daniel,

The Estudio unit at Casa Ensenada Waterfront Guesthouse is what you are looking for.

Casa Ensenada is right on the Ensenada Honda with a dock that for you to fish from. We also have a free double kayak that you can take out to deeper fishing waters.

The Estudio has twin beds, a full kitchen, satellite TV (with a game channel) and is right in town within walking distance of the restaurants, gift shops, grocery store and ferry dock. The publico to the beach goes right past our front door.

All this for $115.00 a night with the 7 night free beats your budget by $10.00 a night.

Look us up at www.casaensenada.com then call me for a reservation on our toll free number.

Jackie

I can't comment on either of the two places that the owners kindly suggested to you. But Villa Boheme is a hotel right on Ensenada Honda as well that has rooms with a kitchen and also cheaper rooms where you have access to a shared kitchen. It has a nice deck out back and hammocks. It is convenient to town walking, there are two supermarkets within a five-minute, easy walk. Culebra is so small and has so many great fishing spots, I wouldn't worry so much about getting a hotel that is close to fishing (and I personally wouldn't eat fish caught too close to shore in the Ensenada Honda-- there is pollution in the shallower areas but once you get out to the deep areas in the middle it's ok). I would get something where you'll be close to town to be able to walk with your son to get ice cream at the Chinese restaurant, with easy access to the taxis that go out to Flamenco, and that will make it easy for you to get around and get groceries.

For fishing, Melones is walkable shoreline fishing though even easier with a scooter or a jeep, and is also good for snorkeling. Carlos Rosario is a 20 minute hike from flamenco but is also really good fishing and snorkeling. If you are going to be there for 3 weeks, I would also recommend talking to Culebrenese that you meet about having them take you to Dakity by boat or Punta Soldado by jeep (it's kind of a long walk but has a great beach and good fishing). There are boat rentals in Culebra and lots of people who will take you on fishing or diving tours. But if you are friendly and nice to people and ask around, you can almost always find someone from Culebra who has a boat and wouldn't mind taking you and your son out fishing on a Saturday for a lot cheaper than one of the dive shops, to a place you otherwise wouldn't be able to get to. The people who run Boheme I am sure could help you find someone.

Sorry to post twice, and this is really embarrassing, but I don't want you to get in trouble. I checked with my husband-- born & raised on Culebra (but living abroad with me for the time being) and also an avid fisherman. He reminded me (I don't fish) that Melones and Carlos Rosario, while two of the best snorkeling areas on Culebra, are part of the protected land so it's illegal to fish on them.

Flamenco is ok for fishing and snorkeling but I find that it has some of the rougher waters on culebra and it can get crowded on weekends. Punta Soldado, accessible by Jeep, is some of the best fishing and swimming and snorkeling, as is Dakity, like I mentioned above.

Again, sorry about the mis-information!

I am going to be staying one night in Culebra this week with two others...we are looking for a clean, and affordable place to stay that is within walking distance to the various beaches. If anyone could recommend, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

I am planning to come to Culebra July 24-31, 2004 for a week of scuba diving. I'd appreciate any recommendations for reasonably-priced hotels, B&Bs, inns, etc within walking distance of Culebra Divers (dive operator) or has a dock from which they do pick-ups. Any referals greatly appreciated.
