Fajardo ferry question

Hello,
I have a few questions concerning the ferry that shuttles people from Fajardo to Culebra: Is it a pedestrian only ferry, or can you take a rental car onto it? If it is pedestrian only, does anyone know if there is a parking lot to leave a car and is it safe? Thanks in advance.

There or cargo ferries and pedestrian ferries. Forget about your car taking it to Culebra. There are 3 or more parking lots between 5 and 10 usd daily and I guess they are safe. Don't just leave it on the street as the area is not safe at night. The weekends might be busy filling up parking spaces.
and yes The pedestrian ferry holds +500p so it would surprise me they get full on a trip these days.

Good afternoon,
There is a secure lot where you can leave your car in Fajardo for ~$5/day.

The passenger ferry actually has been coming full quite often. Yesterday morning, for example, tickets for the 9am were sold out. The summer months are very busy ferry times.

Thanks for that Ferry info. I took the ferry the same day at 3PM and we had hardly 80p on board. But so we skipped the early day trippers and the father day weekend campers which was a good strategy to avoid the crowd. Meanwhile we enjoy paradise of course.

how many days do you plan on being on Culebra?
it woud probably be better to rent a car one way, from AVIS, and drop it off in ceiba. the avis people will then give you a free ride to the ferry.
you wont be paying for a car thats parked in a lot, or pay for the lot or worry about it.

you can rent the car again on the way back, one way. if you need to.

its a better way to go.

or even fly to culebra.

As of now we are planning on staying only 1 night. My girlfriend and I are doing a little tour of Puerto Rico and plan on camping in most places.

We will be camping in at Seven Seas in Fajardo the night before and then getting up earlier to catch the ferry.

but you may want to think about spending less time on the main island and more on the small island. vieques included

Hola! Sorry you haven't received a prompt reply. I have researched your question but have not been able to find an specific answer. Although, I have never seen passengers with bikes on the ferry, I have seen them with all sorts of camping gear, big, bulky and numerous packages, as people tend to over pack for such an occasion. I would think that a bicycle would be considered as one more item to be loaded on the ferry. I would inquire before purchasing your tickets, but I can't imagine you having any problems boarding it. I wouldn't be concerned, as many of the locals are now riding bikes due to the gas prices and economy. Happy travels! J

Good mornig,
Theoretically bikes are supposed to go on the cargo ferry. Thus, you might or might not get stopped trying to bring a bike on the passenger ferry in either direction.

: You won't have trouble bringing them on... technically they charge "extra" for bikes (just a buck or 2).

But you have to tell them you have bikes when you buy your ticket. They also charge extra for beach umbrellas and a few other things and we have brought them on without paying extra. But to be safe, just tell them and pay the buck to avoid the hassle.

Good afternoon,

Just the other day at the ferry dock a local wanted to take his bike on the ferry heading to Fajardo & asked the supervisor. He was told no, that the bike had to go on the cargo boat.

We have also taken our oun bikes to/from Culebra for repairs & they have had to go on the cargo ferry.

Someone might get lucky on a certain day & get to take bikes on board the passenger ferry.

There is a sign posted which details what items require extra charges & thier costs.
