Camping on Flamengo; Safe to leave possessions?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi helpful people out there:

I'm curious about one thing. A bunch of friends of mine (7) are going to Culebra in June 2009, and we wanted to camp, but have hesitations about not being able to leave the campsite for fear of our stuff getting stolen. What is the deal with theft on the beach? Does it happen? Can we lock up the tents and go hiking elsewhere for a day? Are there any kinds of storage facilites or lockers?

thanks!

Marlon

There are some good threads on this if your search for "valuables".

I can give some short answers, though...

No lockers or storage.

Theft is rare but does happen, and it's mostly when things are left out in the open.

Culebra is a wonderful place and far safer and honest than most anyplace you'll find. But there are no guarantees.

With the exception of our digital camera, we traveled pretty lean. Our stuff was never bothered, even when we were at Carlos Rosario and a second group of kids was there at the same time (my point being that we were pretty isolated and there would have been no witnesses). When in town, we carried our stuff with us and did not leave it in the car, but we were renting a "Thing" from Dick and they do not have locks installed on them LOL.

We were there in late January, so the crowds were light.
