We are thinking about visiting Culebra this summer. What are the advantages and disadvantages of going in June, July, or August? Any suggestions of a good place to stay during this time? We appreciate your help.

Hola! We went in July, after the weekend of July 4. It was a weekday and the place was packed, I mean it looked like half of the island if not the entire island was there. Luckily, I had purchased my ferry tickets weeks in advance via phone/credit card and picked them up, bypassing the long, long line of impatient vacationers. It is hard to do as they never pick up the phone. Try to have someone purchase them for you. We stayed at Casita Tropical were Molly, the owner, picked us up at the pier, check out their website. Accommodations were great, good AC, and they have bikes you can borrow as well as all kinds of other beach equipment. As summer progresses, so does the heat and mosquitos. Take bug repellent. Very hot in July and August, so best get accommodations with AC. The economy is hitting Puerto Rico very hard so, I expect that Boricuas are going to be vacationing within the island more than ever. Disney gets expensive, Culebra is cheaper. Big crowds in the summer, probably more this summer. Still, it's a great place to be. Happy travels! J

If you have a choice, definitely travel in the fall. Far less crowded than summer, as it true with about any family vacation destination.

Jeannie makes a great point about how more PR locals will tend to go to Culebra for summer family vacations due to the economy. I bet she's exactly right.
