Good morning all,
My wife and I are going to be visiting Culebra in August (M 8/10 to F 8/14) and we have a few questions about what to expect from that time of the year. I am aware of weather-related issues like hurricane season and the heat, so there is no need to address those. My main concerns are with crowds and amenities.
Crowds:
Everything I've read, online and in print, has stated to avoid the island in July and on summer and holiday weekends. How does mid-week in August compare? We are looking for 4 quiet nights on Culebra of hiking, biking, wildlife spotting, and vegging on the beach, two of which will be spent camping at Flamenco. Could the campgrounds get routy on a Tuesday and Wednesday night in August? We would like to avoid running into one of those mega-parties.
Amenities:
Is this like Europe where nothing is open in August? I saw in the guidebooks that some restaurants and guesthouses are seasonal, and even some of the campground kiosks could be closed at a time like this. It also showed a lot of things only open on weekends. I know the choices are slim on the island in general and we're prepared for that, I just hope the choices are "slim" and not "none" on an August weekday.
I appreciate everyone's input and there will be more inquiries to follow, I have a ton of questions. I was up until 5am last night reading the majority of the forum and it is great stuff!
Thanks!
