Ferry services canceled 3/6/09

Hola! Ferry services have been canceled just now, March 6, 2009 due to the dangerous sea conditions. Please stay in touch with the locals to find out when they will begin again. People that ferried out this morning are now stranded on the other side. You can always fly out, conditions for flying are fine, although the winds are picking up, too. Call before you leave and have a backup plan.
There were conversations, again, about building a bridge between Fajardo, Vieques and Culebra, but if conditions are dangerous, that too will be closed. Just a thought. Happy travels! J

I heard, they wanted to build a tunnel, or was it a submarine ferry - I forget ;)

My fellow campers and i took the 6:30 ferry yesterday morning. heard from our driver back to san juan that all the ferries were cancelled. I have to tell you it was quite the ride across yesterday morning! Im kinda glad we made it out in time, but i guess there could have been worse places to be stranded!!

Good morning,
Actually there were no "strandings" as the flights were running when the ferries were cancelled.

We had both incoming & outgoing guests that went to the airport & got on flights without prior bookings.

Watching the flights in recent days, I would not have wanted to fly in or out either. There were some scary looking take-offs and landings.

Is the ferry service up and running again and anybody got the info on the weather for the next week. We are coming tomorrow...finally the day has arrived!!!

Good afternoon,
The ferries are running fine. It is a VERY rare occasion that they are cancelled.

Basically there is a 30% chance of rain every day, however this covers the entire area of PR. Too, the rain could be, for example, in Fajardo for 10 min., which would constitute the rain for the day. Also, our weather tends to be very localized such that it might rain in town & not at Flamenco.

Normally we don't have full days of nothing but rain. However, if so, at least it's not snow & if you go snorkeling you are wet anyhow :)
