Thanks, Jeannie,
I agree, it is a great issue this month, even if we were not in it! We always try to do as much research as possible about a vacation destination, and Culeberaonline.com (same site as the calendaronline link) was a very helpful site, in addition to this site, of course.
The article "Island Under Assault" regarding the U.S. Navy use of Culebra as a firing range is essential reading. It is hard to believe the practice ever began on islands on which people were living, and just as hard to fathom that the practice continued for another 25 years on Vieques after the end of bombing on Culebra. There appears to be more info regarding this topic on Vieques, and we found the book by Gerald Singer, "Vieques: A Photographically Illustrated Guide to the Island, Its History and Its Culture" to be very helpful reading: http://www.stjohnbeachguide.com/vieques_html/Vieques_English.htm We picked up a copy on Vieques and our kids could not put it down. Much of the info in his book is also found here:

I noticed on page 16 of the Culebraonline site that JC Petersen says that "an extensive press archive will be posted online soon" on that site and we look forward to reading it.
