Can a local please translate ...

I will be bringing a good sized 3 sided sun shade cabana/tent with me to Culebra.

Last year we had a few communication problems with concerned locals thinking we were trying to camp on the beach with it in Isabela lol

So to avoid the same confusion this year I was hoping to print a disclaimer in spanish on the sides :)


So if you would be so kind as translate the following with local flavor WE would greatly appreciate it.


Canbana is for sun shelter only, not for camping.

I am not sure that you'll get much help from the board on this question. I for one cringe at the idea of large tent-like structures on the beach. The printing of big signs on the sides would only make it worse.

That's just my opinion, which you admittedly didn't ask for.

Please note that the cababna is NOT a huge tent and is made specifically for shade and I know well, THAT is scarce on Flamenceo Beach as well as at MANY of beaches I visit while in Puerto Rico. Which is why I bought it in the 1st place.

I'm Sorry you are cringing at the idea of having to look at it but I think that I am entiled to some shade, even in paradise :)

We like to spend ALL day on the beach and not having shelter from the sun from time to time means I have to leave the beach way sooner than I'd like and I'm NOT doing that any more.

Remember It's MY vacation too I'd want to spend as much time as possible on the beach :)

Hola! Good for you for purchasing one of these cabanas, don't want to end up with mayor sunburn at the end of your vacation. I personally use a beach umbrella (we have 2) when we're out in the U.S. beaches and we usually look for tree shade when we're in Puerto Rico. My husband is very light skinned and burns easily. If we don't find a shade, he usually uses up many bottles of sunscreen during our stay. I have seen these cabanas on PR beaches and people think they're great, especially if you have babies or very young kids on the beach. The translation to your phrase:

La cabana es para protegerme del sol, no para acamapar.

I'm sure you won't be bothered if you follow it with: Come on in, bring Bacardi
Bienvenidos, trae Bacardi!
LOL!!! Take sunscreen anyway and enjoy your vaca. Happy travels! J

I too have seen those tents in PR and is how I got the idea.

Best thing I ever bought !!

Because there is No more looking for shade under trees for me, as I stepped right into a red ant hill year before last while clearing the brush with my foot >> OUCH >> lol .. I'm laughing now but it was so NOT funny then :)

Is the guy still there on Flamenco Beach that rents umbrellas and lounges?

Last time we were there, he was super nice and the umbrellas he provided gave us plenty of shade. Can't remember how much they cost but after a few gasolina's we were just glad to have a place to nap peacefully and not get burned!

Just booked the next trip for June 2009! Can't wait!
