Boat Rental
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My husband, my son & I will be visiting Puerto Rico in a couple of weeks. We are planning on taking the ferry to Culebra for at least one day. We are into absorbing the local culture, and getting away from the rush. Renting a boat sounds like great fun. However, just how much "sea" experience do we need in order to be safe? We have lots of experience with sailboats and motorboats on large lakes, but no "sea" experience. Let me know what you think if we stayed kind of close. Thanks for any suggestions, and can't wait to be in the Caribbean again!

Good Afternoon Natalie,

Its not worth it to come to Culebra only for a day. OS may be for two days it will be good. First of all, the trip in the boat last one hour and half, so you lost time, and to go back you have to be at the dock early; and be in a rush.

For the boat rental there is a place that rents it, the anme is Culebra Boat Rental the phone number is (78&) 742-3559 or 1-866-210-0709. I don't think you need a lot of experience besides you can practice in the Ensenada Bay. The rent also sailboat.

If you need more information, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or e-mail.

Have a nice day,
Mitchelle

Island Cruisers has 27' center console power boats, and we rent the boat with a captain to ensure that you enjoy as much of Culebra as possible. This private experience allows you to snorkel, island hop, and snorkel at pristine spots on your schedule.

Culebra is beautiful to experience, but even better by water.

Please review the links below to learn more about Island Cruisers.

Natalie,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions about renting a boat. I was under the weather and out of commission for a few days.

I own and manage Culebra Boat Rental. We rent 20 and 40 hp, 16-ft, 5-person skiffs and a 40-hp, 18-ft, 6-person vee hull motorboat.

Yes, renting a boat is great fun. Having a CBR motorboat greatly expands your opportunities for things to do and places to see in Culebra. You can explore around offshore islets, swim and sunbathe at remote beaches, snorkel at Culebrita, Cayo Norte, and Luis Peña, scuba dive on the many reefs surrounding Culebra, fish over shoals, reefs, and bays, and go shopping and to restaurants in town. You can do all this on your schedule; when and where you want, and as often as you want.

With regard to the renter/operator requirements. You should be 25 or older, have at least 10 hours experience operating small motorboats in water's generally similar to Culebra's (reefs, shoals, possible heavy waves, etc) and be able to do basic coastal navigation (chart reading, rules of the road, etc)

Also, Puerto Rico statutes require that motorboat operators born after July 1, 1972 must have completed an approved motorboat operation course. The "basic skills and seamanship" course offered by the US coast guard auxiliary at many locations in the states is an approved course.

I will be emailing a letter and contract to you with prices and more details. In the meantime, to get more info, see www.culebraboatrental.com.

If you plan to stay overnight in Culebra, you will be interested in a waterfront guesthouse, Casa Ensenada, that my wife, Jackie, and I own and operate along with the boat rental service. Casa Ensenada guests enjoy particular benefits in renting CBR boats:
- Convenience. Your lodging and your boat are at the same place. You can take out the boat at your leisure. It’s as though you are at your own oceanside house with your own dock and boat.
- Savings. Casa Ensenada guests get a $50 discount on motorboat rentals.

You can get more information about Casa Ensenada at www.casaensenada.com.

Thank you,

Butch Pendergast

Butch-

Can you tell me a little more about where I can take this course? I plan on visiting Culebra in mid-May and would love to rent a boat from you!

Thanks.

Matt,

The link below will take you to info about various boating safety courses, both on line and in person. The US Power Squadron course, among others, meets the requirements for Puerto Rico.

I will email a contract and more info about our boats, etc to you.

Thanks. We’re looking forward to meeting you in Culebra,
