Most likely Culebrita was closed as a result of an unexploded ordnance that was found near Flamingo beach. The Core of Engineers are not only working at Culebrita but, they are also conducting sweeps at 5 other beaches looking for unexploded ordnance. The signs that are posted around area beaches are for a reason, like the ones seen passed the shark pen and at the far end of Carlos Rosario. Check out the article in the Culebra Calendar:

A biologist is also working at Culebrita and the other beaches looking for turtle nests. Yes, definitely closed until 1/23/09. Happy travels! J
