Club Seabourne for honeymoon?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My fiance and I booked with Club Seabourne for Feb '09, but now I'm wondering if we should stay somewhere else (e.g., Bahia Marina) because of the bad reviews of C.S. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We're pretty mellow about our accommodations (just want a clean room with a comfortable bed). Also, we would like to be able to get around by bicycle, either to activities or to meals. Is that possible from C.S. or is it secluded and only accessible by car? Thanks!

Getting around on Bikes from Club Seabourne will not be an easy feat. If you stay there or Bahia Marina you will need a car. It is a beautiful location but not walking distance to many places. Club Seabourne does have its own restaurant as does Bahia Marina. We like staying in town and being amongst the locals and we also like it because we can walk to most places. We do rent a car because we like to go to some of the out lying beaches which are to far to walk.

Thanks, Tricia! Do you have any recommendations for in-town lodging?

Instead of biking, could we walk into town from C.S.? We don't mind walking several miles each way.

Good afternoon Cali Girl,

We've had many of our guests get around using bicycles or walking. It will depend where you are on island, however if you do want to use walking/biking as your main mode of transport.

We stay at Casa Jardin in the barrio. I understand Palmetto Guest House is nice but if you google rental properties on Culebra you will get many spots to check out. It should provide the location. Now do understand if you stay in town it is not as quiet as out by Club Seabourne...but part of the ambiance of the island is the chickens walking around and clucking early in the morning. We do like to meet the locals as well. They are so very friendly and it really is nice to be able to walk to dinner in the evening.

I agree with posters who suggest that a place in town might be more fun an more of a local experience. However, I also think that there is no problem bicycling in from Club Seabourne as long as you are in semi-decent shape (and have a good selection of gears on the bike).

Thanks for the posts! We're in decent shape so a bike ride or stroll into town shouldn't be a problem. I'm wondering if C.S. will be more romantic than staying in a guest house in town.

Has anyone stayed at C.S. recently? Any opinions regarding the place?

Also, is January/February considered a high or low season on Culebra?

Cali Girl - just be careful walking or biking from C.S. into town. The road is quite curvy and fairly dark at night. Be sure to stay well off the road when you hear cars coming. People (especially tourists) tend to go too fast in the area!

Happy Diving!

Debbie is right - we did not do any bike riding after dark.

I agree with Debbie and I might add if the roads are being repaired it makes it even more difficult.

All I can say is that in 2 months of bicycling in Culebra we didn't have any problems getting around (aside from the lousy bikes we bought at Walmart). That being said, night time biking, no matter where you are, can be a hazardous past-time.

We stayed uphill from Club Seabourne and could see it from our rental, Casa Del Sol. There was very loud music some nights. My daughter jogged into town from where we stayed. The view from CS should be the same breathtaking view we had of Ensanada Honda and Fulladoza Bay, but we were lots higher up. The grounds at CS looked nice, as did the pool area. We never ate there. We were told the food was good, but pricey. Personally, I would not go to Culebra without renting a car at least part of the time. The only beach you can get public transportation to and that is from town, is Flamenco and from there you can hike to Carlos Rosario. You will miss several lovely beaches if you do not have a car.
