unsure about ferry cargo schedule

Hey, I am planning to stay culebra the 28th of July to the 30th. I am planning to take a small Toyota RAVA4. Anyone knows the price for the ferry cargo, Is it 2.25/person plus the price of taking my car?Also what is the ferry cargo schedule?

This may change. I've read in the PR press (the last couple of weeks) that due to the volume of passengers to Culebra and back, Port Authority has had to add and change some of the scheduling. I know in the past they've have also done this with the cargo ferry.

You need to call ahead to reserve space on the cargo ferry. The cargo ferry is usually booked up about a month and Culebrenses get in first as well as vender's and other supply vehicles.

Numbers for Fajardo Port Authority: 787- 801-0250 and 0251, Ext. 221, 222, 230, 234, 787-860-8618, 787-863-0852 and 0705. Try all of them because they are not always very good about answering the phone. Call between 8 AM-11 AM and 1-3PM.

It is not worth the effort AT ALL to try to bring a car onto Culebra for only two days. For one thing, the odds are probably only 50/50 at best that you can get a spot. And even if you get a spot, you can be bumped by someone with higher priority (locals, government, etc).

Remember that Culebra is not motivated at all to populate its island with more cars. And we're all grateful for that!

I suggest just renting a car or golf cart on Culebra. Or better yet, use a publico.

If you were staying on Culebra for weeks, that might be a different matter. Maybe.

That weekend in particular is going to be very crazy with the ferries. It's the last hurrah of the July holidays - and that includes what is sort of a bridge holiday from the long weekend before. I know they'll try to put on more runs, but...personally speaking, I wouldn't bother with trying. Now...a week from then...very different story!

MJ, ordinarily your advice is golden. But in this case I think that it's unwise for them to send their car to Culebra a week after they've come and gone. Their Rav4 probably isn't mature or experienced enough to be on its own in Culebra. They might never see their Rav4 again. As you know, many visitors go to Culebra for a "vacation" but stay and never leave! At the minimum, they should find a local to serve as the car's guardian. Might you be available?

Because I stopped doing drugs a long time ago I'm not really sure if I am understanding this correctly. Bicycles seem to do quite well on their own and in fact can be seen accommodating different riders. I've even noticed shoes that have gone on walkabout with no feet in them...are you suggesting a vehicle cannot do as well, that because, through no fault of it's own, being a petroleum powered object, it doesn't have the rights of ALL man made objects?

I had no idea you and Mort were so...well, to put it nicely, biased. If I see this vehicle here alone, I will be sending it to the HUMANE group, to hopefully ship it up to the states where it will be properly appreciated. In fact...I may work toward sending more than one.

You're right, MJ and Richard.

I, who pride myself in having an open and welcoming mind, leaped to a wholly biased and yes, even stereotyped conclusion. I know nothing at all about this particular Rav4. Nothing! Yet I pre-judged it regardless.

I apologize to each and every one of you. I make no excuses for what I have wreaked. But please understand that I am a man, like any other. I have weaknesses, and though I'm not proud of them, I face them unafraid and unashamed. And isn't that what life is all about? A constant voyage of inner discovery? A relentless striving toward our spiritual destinies while trying not to drown in the backwaters of our frailties? At the end of the day, isn't that all that really matters?
