Taxi or flight?

Author: Heather (---.ia4.marketscore.com) Date:   02-25-04 19:55 My boyfriend and I arrive at 2:30 p.m. on March 18th. We're trying to decide if we should fly to Culebra, or take a taxi to Fajardo and ferry it from there. What are the chances that we'll make the ferry? We're hoping to save some $$. If driving is an option, should we plan on hiring a driver in advance? (Also, if anyone else arrives on the same day, and is interested in sharing a taxi, let me know!) Any advice from those who done this before?? Thanks so much!

Author: Michael (---.kilng01.ct.comcast.net) Date:   02-25-04 22:34 Unless you have only carry-on luggage, you could be cutting it close. The ferry leaves Fajardo @ 4:30. By far the easiest way to get to Culebra is on Isla Nena Airways. ($135.00 round trip per person) It's expensive but they fly from the International Airport Terminal B. If you do want to get a ride to Fajardo, you could make arrangements with Padin or get a cab at curb side. I don't know what they charge. We used to do a cab and make arrangements for the same driver to pick us up on our return to Fajardo. I met a very competent, nice, and reliable driver in San Juan last week. His name is Nestor and his #'s are 787-645-3146 (cell) & 787-796-6591 (home). He drove us from the airport to Old San Juan (Hotel Milano) and picked us up on the dot the next morning. Author: Rachel Papo (---.cable.mindspring.com) Date:   02-25-04 23:41 I booked a flight today with Vieques Air Link - (787) 741-8331. it's $90 round trip and leaves from Isla Grande airport which is a $20 taxi ride from the major San Juan airport. If you split it between 2 people it's a pretty good deal. Call in the morning, they are very helpful. good luck!

The view is spectacular and was a memorable part of our week long trip. don't take a taxi. Hire a driver. It will save you about ten bucks. have fun. --burnsie

The flight is quick and there are many more flights then listed but they reserve them for the locals. Have the hotel you are staying try and book it for you if the flight times don't work. the flight is short and gives you a great view of both islands coming and going.

We just got back and everyone we talked to who took the Ferry said it was a less than comfortable experience. The flight is a little more expensive but well worth it. You will be very thankful that you did this.

Author: Julio (---.c3-0.wsd-ubr1.qens-wsd.ny.cable.rcn) Date:   04-04-04 22:27 If you want to save your dough for a jeep on the island (fyi, Jerry's was great at 50 a day, and it gets you to Zoni, Soldado, etc.) and anything else you might be able to do that'll run extra, the taxi/ferry route is just fine. If you're athletic or have lots of energy, the ferry is no biggie. Take a nap, chat with some Boricuas or play cards. But bring the dramamine if you're even remotely prone to motion sickness. And I hired Nestor (see Michael, 2/25) for the taxi from San Juan to Fajardo and can tell you that he is a real professional. Safe, punctual and a real gentleman. I'll hire him next time we go that route.
