If you want to save your dough for a jeep on the island (fyi, Jerry's was great at 50 a day, and it gets you to Zoni, Soldado, etc.) and anything else you might be able to do that'll run extra, the taxi/ferry route is just fine. If you're athletic or have lots of energy, the ferry is no biggie. Take a nap, chat with some Boricuas or play cards. But bring the dramamine if you're even remotely prone to motion sickness.
And I hired Nestor (see Michael, 2/25) for the taxi from San Juan to Fajardo and can tell you that he is a real professional. Safe, punctual and a real gentleman. I'll hire him next time we go that route.
