The mosquito question is probably #1 on the top ten list for all time. Mosquitos depend on water to breed, so whenever there are extended periods of heavy rainfall (which is no longer predictable) and sources of standing water (the presence of which depends on multiple factors) they are more likely to be bothersome. Also wind direction and speed has a lot to do with how annoying they might be and winds can be bustling along at 15 knots during the day only to die down dramatically later in the day. So....... whenever you come to the Caribbean it might be a good idea to bring along your favorite insect repellant, being along at least one cotton long sleeved shirt and long pants that you don't mind getting covered in insect repellant, and also you can try taking a vitamin B supplement daily for at least one month before your trip down if your medical history allows it; it really does help make your skin less attractive to biting insects. When you need insect repellant, spray or hand apply your insect repellant to your clothing instead of your skin, and dab a bit in your hair. If camping you can spray the outside of your tent with repellant, and also give a shot of aerosol flying insect killer inside the tent while you are away to get those that might be hiding out in the corners or ceiling waiting for the big ambush when you return. While you are in Culebra you can plan your activities for areas on the windward side of the island at that time. There are good snorkeling spots on the east, west, and south shorelines, so you can choose the best for that moment to catch the prevailing winds and help keep the bugs at bay. And, if for some reason there is a very heavy infestation of mosquitos, the municipal government sprays populated areas to knock them back. Don't let a few pesky mosquitos ruin your visit, there are ways around it.
