Camping @ flamenco

My wife and I will be in PR for 3 weeks we are coming to Culebra for maybe a week... I am a studant and we enjoy camping so we are looking to camp at flemanco for the whole time...
Is there a time limit for staying at the beach campground/ Is there a number to call to make reservations?
Is there food at the beach all the time? I heard there is kiosks all over with food...
Are fires permitted?
We live in Alaska and love to fish, is there any gear I could bring to catch my own fish/crab/or lobster?
I heard there are rats at the flemenco beach campground..True? I can deal with bears but kinda scared of rats...

So you're cool with bears, but rats bug you? surely there are opportunistic rodents in AK - frankly I'd rather startle a rodent than a bear of any variety.

last time I had bears snuffling around my tent I was petrified (that was on a long backpack in NM so I prob. didn't smell so good either - 'cept bears find gamey tasty, right?)

I want/like to think of rats (if they are on Flamenco) like the hagfish that groom sharks... or the birds on hippos.

I'd be more concerned with the no-see-ums.

the kiosks serve in the middle part of the day (say 10 -3 to be safe-ish or maybe even 9-4) but not New Years day and some other holidays. but there's a nice variety.

others here will have better info, but I had to comment on the fauna (a mouse showed up in my kitchen this week 'cause of the cold and the little SOB keeps skipping the trap...).

Last Feb., a young man from the main island used a spear gun to kill a rather huge lobster; I believe he swam away from shore a bit for this 'find'.

At first he was inquiring among section D campers to borrow a large enough pot to cook the lobster but he ultimately carried it to the parking lot where he sold it to one of the kiosk folks.

This event created quite a bit of excitement in section D; many of us from ME could see that he'd snagged a large lobster.

We'll be at the campground with friends from Alaska too.
They are from Girdwood. Maybe we'll run into you but I hope to miss
the rats! Merry Christmas.

I camped there for a couple of nites in March 2006. I did not see any rats. http://www.islaculebra.com/puerto-rico/camping.html has the number to call to reserve a site. I dont think there's a time limit and I don't remember there being many kiosks with food. I think there was one or two near the entrance. It is really beautiful to camp there and you can get right up next to the water but behind some palm trees and slight tiny hill which i think is probably good for wind at nite not that there was much of it. I dont know anything about the fishing cuz I dont fish but I'm sure you could ask when you make the reservation. I don't think there's any rules against food and there are some picnic tables in the camp areas. For food, there are taxis to go to one of a few restaurants nearby, but the taxis only run during the day, not late in the evenings. Hope this helps! I'm thinking of going back in February by the way because it was so beautiful just like the pictures and it's so close to (basically on) the beach. Also I don't remember bugs being much of a problem.

seriously, Cathy and Chris, try the search tab on the left and use the keyword "campground" - lots of firsthand insight over the last few years.

Kiosko: I remember about 4 or 5 on a slow day and as many as 8 or 10 on a busy holiday. some had a wider variety of offerings than others.

did Coconuts Grill on the beach ever get their liquor license back?
