Seems it was just a bit of rain/wind. The ferry arrived this am & planes have been flying. The sun has even been out for a while this morning!

Terri belongs to the Culebra Chamber of Commerce, where 50 mph wind gusts are just perfect for cleaning loose debris off the streets and beaches and the rain brings full cisterns & flowers and butterflies everywhere! I am her doppleganger, with mud in front of my cart ;)

Well, it's true that our newly washed card has splashed through some of those mud puddles & now is already in need of a re-wash...however, my gardens are very happy :)

The dogs, however, side with MJ as we missed our am walk yesterday due to the rains at their regularly scheduled hour...

A *bit* of a mess? DR & Haiti, in the aftermath, make me cry.

yeah like Hispaniola has it so easy in the first place...

(that's not snark - have had friends and co-workers from both sides of the island)

What is amazing though is the 'tranquilidad' whith which people take all that mess! It's not a 'mess' per se. It's life as usual ..

I wish I had more of that!

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

Interesting. After Andrew, I was doing an article in Homestead for the National Guard. I interviewed this woman, a life long migrant worker, and commented on observing and sensing the same sort of feeling - I mean, for people drinking water out of puddles in the street with the smell of death all around, they seemed pretty sanguine. She said something I can't forget..."This is just one more thing in our lives, " with that universal shrug of acceptance.

I believe for her, for them - it just was what it was...another tragedy in lives where tragedy and strife were so extremely commonplace as to be the norm.
