My family and I are planning to camp at Flaminco Beach in late December through early January. I read that there was an oil spill in Puerto Rico and was wondering of the effects in Culebra.
The spill was off Guanica, which is on the southwest corner of the main island. I don't know enough about the currents to give an informed answer, but that is as far away as you can get and still be in Puerto Rico. The currents I'm familiar with on Culebra seem to follow the trades, and if that is true near the spill, I'd guess the Dominican and Caymans might be in jeopardy.
I would tend to agree with you. However, I read an article about the spill which said that the oil traveled from the southwest around the island and was near Cornando. I was hoping someone had recently been to Culebra to say if the water/shore had been affected by the oil. I sincerely hope not.
