Hermit Crabs - where are they?

Which beach is best for viewing hermit crabs? I am currently on Culebra and have been suprised to not see one.

It may be that they are doing a good job of being hermits. Looking in conch shells washed ashore? If you look at the pictures posted on the Punta Soldado portion of the map on this site, you'll see one we found in about a foot of water, there.

I find that Culebrita, on the path to Playa Tortuga, is full of them!

picked up the biggest one I ever saw in a queen conch shell just off Culebrita in 6 feet of water last week.

I lived on a mountain and we feed them our compost (they loved it) and they would show up in the hundereds(believe it!), I even painted some of their shells once to track them. I've found one in the elbow of a land crab.. and a pvc pipe, they'll use anything they can find. (My siblings once lost one in our house in New England, and we didin't find it for over a month)... Keep looking, their out there...
