Hotel Delicias

I'm hoping to stay in Fajardo this Wendsday the 17th. I've heard that although it isn't luxurious, Hotel Delicias is clean and is very close to the dock. I haven't been able to get through to them to make a reservation. Any suggestions for a back up hotel close to the ferry terminal??

Delicias is great - it won a design or architecture award when it was built. They usually have rooms available when I arrive.

Hotel Delicias won an architectural award???? Are we talking about the one on the same street as the ferry dock on the corner, the ferry dock in Fajardo? The one that people - from Fajardo - have told me to never stay in unless I want to go in the room and not come out until morning? The one that is kind of creepy even in the daytime? Though I do like the bar and restaurant space, true.
You can't mean it's that one, right??

If you are unlucky enough to have to spend the night on that side of the ocean, keep your car. You will love, Passion Fruit B & B. Look it up on google. When I do I lose this link and have to start over again so you look it up:-) Trip Advisor agrees with me.

Well it's just my style - I also like 'bad' guest houses in Old San Juan with no bathrooms, amazing old tiles and 15ft ceilings .. especially at 25/night .. and yes, there might be a roach here and there ;)

Is the food any good at this Hotel Delicias? Need a place to grab dinner before a ferry in February ... the thought of fast-food or Sizzler depresses me.

While we're on obscure accomodations, I never see or hear about Hotel Puerto Rico on Culebra. What is it like inside? Why or why not stay there? Room rates? If it was clean and the beds comfortable, it'd be kind of Hemingwayish to stay there. If it was decent, I'd even learn some dominoes theory.

Doug, I have been inside Hotel Puerto Rico and seen the rooms (~3 years ago). Delicias is a huge step up and Hemingwayish enough - IMO. There is no redeeming charm as in my dump in Old San Juan. And I think rooms are 40 and up.

Michael is right about Hotel Delicias won an award on architecture, but I agree with MJ it's creepy in the day time. Hotel Delicias has been closed since the owner died. They are selling the hotel.

The architecture isn't really what I was talking about...it was more about safety. I travel by myself most of the time and sometimes planes get in late so that is when I was told it would be a pretty bad idea to stay at Hotel Delicias.
Once, eager to get home and landing long after planes or ferries were running, I took a publico to the ferry dock from SJ, getting there about 2 a.m. figuring to take the cargo ferry and be home faster.
The taxi driver was VERY reluctant to leave me there but I said, nah, I'll be fine. I think I'd taken about five steps when the security guy came over to me, picked up my bag, unlocked the ferry departure lounge and was pretty adament about me staying inside, for my own safety. Soon after, some friends showed up who were going to take the cargo ferry with their vehicle, so I could hang out with them outside (I'm not a very inside sort of person). So...long explanation to say, funky is cool, dangerous is not ;)

Approve the Passion Fruit is a neat place and very friendly lady owner. With a small pool nice area.
