Hello- I know Vieques is the best bio bay, but we may not be able to stay overnite and are wondering if anyone has checked out the one in Fajardo or la Parguera? We are leaving in a few days and staying in Rincon but are definately coming to beautiful Culebra to relax for a few. Any ideas on whether its a must-see in Vieques? I've read its well worth the trip but staying overnite may be tough.... any ideas?? Thanx-

We went on a kayak trip to the bio bay in Fajardo last Tuesday- it is totally worth it! The trip through the mangrove lined canal to the lagoon is great on its own and then as the sun sets it becomes mind blowing. It was a high point for all of us on the trip- don't miss the experience!

Wherever you are going, make sure to check with the moon:

We'll be in Puerto Rico the end of March and have reservations for the Bio Bay tour. We would like to bring along a camera and DVD recorder. Will pictures turn out or it is way too dark? Is there a dry place to keep the camera equipment while kayaking?

Don't bother bringing a camera. Unless you have special equipment, pictures of the bio bay are impossible. We even had an underwater camera - but its just too dark. And if you add light (flash) you can't see the organisms glow. Just go and enjoy it. It's an incredible experience.

Cameras don't work becuase the shutter speed is too slow to catch the organisms as they luminesce. Even the brochures, etc. are computer enhanced. That being said we did bring an underwater camera and really like the pictures we took of the trip up the canal to the lagoon in Fajardo (Las Croabas actually).
