Lori,
I also checked with Avis about renting a car to go from Fajardo to SJU,
but there where some problems doing it with Avis. The Avis location in
Fajardo is at the El Conquistador Hotel and they don't offer a shuttle service
from the ferry dock to the hotel. They told me, and I talked directly with Avis
at El Conquistador, that I'd have to take a taxi from the dock to their location. I asked if they knew how much that would cost. They said about
$20.00. Avis quoted me a price of $70.00 for their cheapest car, plus the
twenty dollar taxi, 90 bucks altogether for the one way ride. That's a bit
pricey. But there is another way to do it.
L&M Car Rental 787-860-6868 also offers a one way car rental from
Fajardo to SJU. Their price for their cheapest car is $58.80. They said I would need proof of insurance, or it would be another $10.00. I'm not exactly sure what proof of insurance means, and I didn't ask, but I'll check
with my credit card company and see. I'm coming in on the ferry from Vieques, it arrives around 8:00 am. They told me to call them when the ferry
docks and they'd send a car and pick us up, and take us to their location on
Rt. 3. Sounds good to me. I booked with them. Others have told me they've
used L&M with no problems. Thought some of you might wanna know to
avoid some hassels. Happy trails......
