Can I try diving in a day trip

Hi,
I am traveling with my wife and daughter and plan to do a day trip to Culebra island, take the 9am ferry Saturday and return 5pm the same day.
While my wife and daughter will go to Flamenco Beach, I wonder if I can try diving myself. I am a good swimmer but never dive before. So I guess I need to rent gears and have a coach? But my main question is if it will be too much pain or even possible to do it in the day trip?

Stick to snorkeling - you will have an amazing experience and not be stressed to 'make it back in time'. Great snorkeling right off Flamceo, or walk across to Carlos Rosario (from Flamenco)

Thank you for the reply.
Just realized that I need to wear glasses otherwise cannot see far and blurred. Googled a bit and found little about the snorkeling with glasses. What should I do? I cannot do contact lenses.

My husband has horrible vision (needs glasses to see the alarm clock!), and he didn't enjoy snorkeling until I got him a custom prescription mask for his birthday one year. This is a fairly large expense, so if you will not be snorkeling frequently it might not make sense for you. On some islands dive shops rent masks with prescription lenses but Culebra is a very small island. ;-)

If your prescription is fairly simple you can search for "prescription dive mask" on Amazon and order one for $50 or less. This might be a good thing to do, as it could even make swimming laps, etc. more comfortable and feasible.
