Like Geronimo said... it's the surf conditions at the time that really determine if it is safe to swim. I have swam and body-surfed at both Resaca and Brava beaches and had a great time, with no problems with rip-currents or undertows. Rip currents are more likely to occur when the surf is washing up a steep beach, then quickly back into the ocean. The last time I swam at Resaca the waves were very large, but the beach had eroded and was very flat.
Before anyone ventures into the ocean, they should weigh the surf conditions against their experience with ocean swimming, and make the decision that is safe for them.
