El Batey Incidence

Are they still beating people out at El Batey? Is anyone doing something about these criminals that are terrorizing the comunity? Are culebrenses going to continue with their heads down while these "kids" rule the streets of Culebra?

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!let get this on the right track....................no everyone you see in this island is Culebrense.....I'm against beating anyone but don't judge us because who ever beat whom is a local......I also know ain't easy pressing charges against them ( they are from Rio Piedras) if the ones in chargedon't do their jobs what everyone else should....I really in pain this is not the place I use to raise 31 years ago..Lets hope it doesn't happen again

I think you are talking about a group that worked out of Costa Bonita,
although Costa Bonita wasn't involved. They tied up a local and robbed
him, there were rumors he was involved in drugs too, so it maybe was a
inner circle kinda thing. I have never heard of locals beating up anybody
unless it was someone stealing from their families or some drug thing.
I have friends and relatives on the Island, they feel safe. Nobody is
terrorizing the Island, it sounds like maybe you are involved?

I really don't know, or care about where the thugs were from. Nor do I profess to know how much truth there is in the OP.

I do care about the police in Culebra doing their jobs, as I do all the municipal departments. After all, if they don't, if huge potholes don't get fixed,and if crime rises, the island starts to become the Big Island or Vieques.

A sense of urgency and professionalism might be needed from town hall, lest the debate over development is eclipsed by these other matters.

Is anybody really listening?

As has been said, "no man is an island," nor is an island ever really an island.

I would hope for a step up n basic municipal services.

except for two beaches, culebra has nothing on vieques.
your roads arent great.
your town? come on.
im not interested in insulting culebra or the people that love it. i love it too.
but dont make stupid statements.

how many excellent restaurants do you have? vieques has many
how many bio bays do you have? vieques has two
how many conservation and historical trust societies do you have? how large is the wildlife preserve on culebra? compared to vieques?
in one breath you will defend those things about culebra you consider"charming" and in the next breath use those same examples of vieques and insult her.

I have never been to vVeques, and your post does little to entice me further.

I just know that Vieques has a reputation for crime, perhaps undeservedly, and I don't want Culebra to slip into that mode.

If I offended you I apologize, because I know, as I approach seventy, that we all treasure and tend to defend our turf. Please accept my errant reference, if it was that.

But, back to Culebra: thuggery has no place on the island, and beatings of the sort can escalate and spread quickly. I just trust that the local police have a handle on things, and if they do not, that they will.

Mine was a simple expression, and so quickly calling someone a jerk for making a comment, well...

Sunny, babe, do all of us a favor and explain exactly what you mean by "a group that worked out of Costa Bonita". You seem to have information that would help the Police! Speak out! Let's get these guys! Can you spell out some names, identify a mug shot, or at least provide some information on who these people are? Do you really care about this? Are you taking this seriously? You seem to be very well informed...however your comments seem to add zero value to the discussion. Did you know that Culebra's #1 problem is drugs? I'm sorry if you thought it was "preserving coral life" or "defending the turtles". Uncontrolled development is not even in the top ten either. If you can't contribute with anything, at least avoid disrupting an intelligent discussion by introducing rumors and gossip.

i did not call you a jerk, i said dont be a jerk.
the distinction is important as calling you a jerk would be an all inclusive statement of who you are. and i dont know you well enough to know if that is true or not.
when i said dont be a jerk it refernced the crime and potholes comment. yes, there is crime on vieques. and unfortunately it is mostly drug related. but it is overall very safe. safer than alot of neighboring islands. crime is relatively low on vieques. and alot of the serious crime on vieques is commited by people from other islands. at least the ones that get caught are.

but thank you for the apology. and there are lots of safe places on the big island too. would you say the united states is not safe since there is crime there? lots of crime in some places and not so much in others. but its safe

certainly vieques is not as exclusive as culebra is. its only been free for 1/5 the amount of time that culebra has. so lets see what its like in 20 years. im hoping the eco tourist effect strengthens and PR recognizes its true worth and protects it.

I made a telephone call, one of the druggie gang was working out of Costa Bonita
at the time, I don't know if its in the slum worker part or not. He was not from Culebra but was involved in Gang activity. I don't know if Costa Bonita was responsible for bringing him here or he was here and they hired him.

Sunnybabe also says costa bonita is responsible for the oil spill in the Gulf and the plane crash in Tripoli.
