Went to Culebra on the 24th of September. Planned to spend 2 nights there. The first thing upon arrival was to rent a Jeep. We stopped at the Carlos Jeep rental in the airport, we begin to head somewhere to get breakfast. And ding, the gas light came on, so we tried for about 10 minutes to find a gas station. When we found it, it wasn't open for another hour. Growing increasingly frustrated as we waited, the station opened about 810, filled up, and off to find food. We spoke to a local who directed us to a restaurant, upon arriving it was closed, then we spoke to a firefighter who directed us to another restaurant, also closed. We then went back to the airport to see if the cafe was open yet. But apparently it was closed that day, we finally made it to La Pista, which was simple, but okay. Then before we could check into our guest house it was off to the beach. WOW, the most amazing beach I have ever laid eyes on. And we had it completely to ourselves. We hung out there for about 2-3 hours before heading to town to find out accommodations. One thing that was awful in the town was the amount of trash, litter and animals everywhere. It seemed like a 3rd world country. Anyways, we find our guest house, Casa Ensenada, and it was better than the outside would lead you to believe. It was very lightly stocked. We then rested for a while and decided to get some groceries since we were a little hungry. The grocery store was small and reeked. We then go back to our guest house and hung out for a while, we decided not to chance trying to find a place open for dinner, and had our meal there. We were not prepared for the amount of mosquitoes and bugs that we faced that night, we decided we had enough. We weren't staying there 2 nights, thankfully Air Flamenco allowed us to move up our return flight at no charge. We spent the night there and got eaten alive by mosquitoes, ever hear of a mosquito net? The next morning we headed to the beach again, the only redeeming quality of the island. So the trash, the impoverished atmosphere, dirty and loose animals everywhere, tremendous pot holes were not our idea of a vacation and these things were not mentioned in the reviews I had previously read while planning the trip. My only advice to others planning a trip here is to take a daytrip to the beach and do not stay on the island.
