Stop by Section E, say ola!

My daughter & I will be at long last heading to Flamenco to camp as soon as we land in PR day after tomorrow (YIPPIEEE!!), 7/29, and staying, tentatively, through Aug 6 in Section E down the end. (Then heading to the rainforest, total of three weeks in PR! - the leisurely life of a school teacher.) If any of you are in the area, come along & say hi! I'll be the goateed guy asking questions. And thanks for all your help.

Is-there-any-shade, can I ask a favor, if you happen to read this before you leave?

We'll also be staying in Section E (though later this year), and I'm trying to figure out a way to rig up some kind of shower curtain that we can put up (and take down) when we take showers using pvc pipe and a curtain.

Here are my questions:

Are the showers in section E working?

About how tall is the shower wall?

About how far above the shower nozzle is the top of the wall?

About how thick is the shower wall? (My plan is to make a support that has two u-shaped sections that "drape" over the top of the wall... Does that look feasible?)

Those showers weren't working when we camped in Section E, so I never looked closely at them.

And if you get a chance, can you estimate the same things for the showers near the entrance? Thanks!

Now, Can-You-Take-a-Llama-on-the-Ferry, perhaps I'm being suckered on this one, because I believe it'll be the first question you've introduced that didn't involve secret llama societies or rooster covens, or - anyway, sure I'd be happy to check that out. Will the two u-shaped halves be rigidly linked? In any event, I guess you'd need a rock or something heavy to weight down that section that's not supporting the curtain - am I picturing this correctly?

You probably know that solar-shower type do-hickies are available with a shower curtain. They go for about 20-something bucks, but here's one one on auction at ebay:

Just in case you're not spoken for, I'll clarify that the babe doesn't come with it.

It sounds like the showers are an on-again-off-again kind of thing, so you may want to keep that (solar-shower) in the back of your mind.

Though, if you're bringing your llama friend, she might not fit in one of those. Come to think of it, you mentioned sh'e trained - did you mean to use the bathroom? because if that's the case, she couldn't use the ones at the campground (too small) so if she's a US citizen, the Americans with Disabilities Act would kick in, and the feds would be required to build a giant hurricane-proof deluxe bathroom emporium, three actually, one for each gender. Would take out all of sections B,C, and D, but still, looking forward to that. Double the island's GDP for a bit.

I'll get back to you on the shower wall once I'm back at internet access, no later than return to Mass. around 8/20.

Thanks, Shade. That's a good link. Does the babe have an extra charge? The ad wasn't clear on that. LOL.

I have definitely been looking at the solar shower possibility, but it requires the right kind of tree branch and good drainage. Plus it can be a bit of a hassle. Some have had good experiences going that direction, some not.

If the E showers are working consistently, I'd like to work out a way to use them with a rigged-up-curtain idea.

Though I'm definitely open to any ideas you might suggest, my plan is to make a rigid frame using pvc pipe, with the supports being two u-shaped sections that hang over the wall, with a horizontal square-shaped frame extending out to hold up a curtain.

But all this might be more of a hassle than the solar shower option. Can you take a general look at whether there are good spots with the right-height and right-strength tree branches to hang a solar shower set-up? I never really looked from that perspective when we were there.

I now ask the board's forgiveness for what is probably the most boring thread of the month. I'm hoping that my llama thread built up some credit, though.

O.K., will do, I'm bringing a small solar shower thing myself, just in case. Regarding the supports, are they supporting the square frame part? You can e-mail directly on this if I'm not gettting it right, but I'll check it out & think about what would work.

And while you're at it, can you please let us know if there's a hitching post for llamas?

Happy Diving!

"rooster covens"

oh my lord, is that what's next? "Rooster Coven and the Lady"?

Tippi Hedren, Mia Farrow and John Wayne star in an animated feature about dogs that establish a pecking order based on who is the best chicken hound?

Buddy Portis set Cogburn in Arkansas but it was filmed in the Rockies and Bruce Dern was always creepy (which explains why he married Dianne Ladd and she was so crazy-cool psycho in Wild at Heart) but I hear she's fun on campouts.

can we move on to other animal activity?

I have photos of geckos 'en flagrante' (sp?) if you really wanna drag this down into non-mammal hard core.

they're not in any way exciting!

Hard core geckos, the Lady of the Rooster Coven and...poor Mort, being attacked by tourists as he tries to make a privacy shower stall on the shower wall...(Mort, we really DO need to talk!). Yes, for that Michael, I'd say images would be a must do. Terrifying, but necessary.
