Hotel Advice
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I'm going to Culebra the early part of June. I'm thinking of staying at the Culebra Beach Villas. It looks nice but does anyone know whether it's worth the price? Also, would it be easier to rent a car in San Juan and ferry over or just wait 'til I get to Culebra? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Tracey-

The car deal depends on how long you plan to stay in culebra. the longer you stay the more sense it makes to get one of the discount cars on the main island (possibly priceline!) and deal with the hassle of ferrying it over.

While you are looking, I suggest you check out Villa Flamenco Beach. (787-742-0023) It's right next door. I don't know their summer rates but it was a great place to stay in the winter for between $85-100 per night.

Hello! Just returned Friday from spending a week in Culebra. The Culebra Beach Villas look fine from the outside, we passed by them one afternoon in a Publico leaving Flamenco Beach. One thing, it's not really within walking distance from the town but there is always the Jeep rentals and Publicos should you want to check out some of the town's gift shops, Mamacita's etc. As far as the expense....well each to his own, we stayed at a relatively new guest house named Casita Linda in town and found it to be comfortable (certainly not luxurious) but highly affordable! Adolfo has three different units to choose from. Our first morning he took us for a private boat ride and dropped us off at Carlos Risaro Beach...which was great! Only one downfall is that there tends to be a little traffic noise and of course the ever present roosters near the guesthouse...but they are every where on the island pretty much. If you do rent a jeep or Samauri check out "Jerry's Rental" next to the Aeruporte....hope this was helpful.

Have a great trip!

posted on other things here about Bahia Marina – highly recommend it. just google them and their site comes right up. good value, pleasant staff, clean rooms, very nice.

Also - been told by local friends who live on the island - it's best to rent once you get to culebra. even if you rent on mainland, there's no guarantee the cargo ferry will take you, and typically the insurance doesn't cover you taking the cars on the ferry or to another island. plenty of local jeep places, if you stay at bahia marina, you can rent from thrifty directly through them with a 10% discount.
