First time to culebra in July

hi,

My boyfriend and I are coming to San Juan in July. We were thinking about making a day trip to Culebra. This is what i was thinking, maybe you guys can tell me if this sounds too far fetched.

Rent a car from san juan
Drive to Fajardo
Take the ferry from there
Go to a couple of beaches during the day
Rent a scooter and ride around
Hope on a ferry back to Fajardo
Drive back to the hotel

Now, here are my questions:

1. Is that a lot to do in a day?
2. Is it worth renting a scooter?
3. What beach would you recommend for people who've never been to Culebra?

One day is not enough time to do what you plan, if you are driving to Fajardo and taking the ferry. I would fly ($100 rt) so I can return the same day to the big island. The scooter idea is fine; don't forget to go to Mamacitas and Dinghy Dock!! Also make sure you go to Flamenco and Zoni.

Lots of people do it in one day. If you just want to hang out on the most beautiful beach in Puerto Rico (Flamenco), catch the 9am ferry from Fajardo, and the 5pm ferry back. You won't likely have enough time to see two beaches, but if you have a scooter, you can ride around a bit during the day. You don't need a scooter if you are just going to hang out at Flamenco - there are publicos/taxis that make round trips around the ferry schedule.

Hola! Very HOT. Bring along sunscreen and bug repellent since it's also mosquito season. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Happy travels! J
