Yeah, any boater will tell you that gas prices are making boating a VERY expensive hobby. Even more expensive than it is otherwise! LOL.
One advantage, though, is that high gas prices mean there will be less and less powerboats coming from PR. A few months ago, I visited Culebrita on a friend's catamaran on a weekend (minor holiday), and there were nearly 30 powerboats tethered side by side at the beach. Not exactly the getaway we had hoped for.
I've also been there when when we were the only ones! And believe it or not, we were boarded by the coast guard, right there in Culebrita, looking for people smugglers. (Fortunately, we had already dropped off our load a couple hours earlier.)
Seriously, it turned out to be just a training exercise, but it was still a little bit unsettling to be boarded by a a group of people carrying large guns.
