I just read the news on caribbeanracing.com.

"Hot racing. Cool parties, and boatloads of island-style hospitality complete with laid-back Caribbean charm are what sailors will enjoy at the 3rd annual Culebra Heineken International Regatta (CHIR) and Culebra International Dinghy Regatta (CIDR)."

If anybody who reads this is in the know, please post about what bands are playing in town for the party. Last year Giovanni Hidalgo teamed up with Millo Torres y el Tercer Planeta, for perhaps the best music I've ever heard on our favorite little island. The Heinies were a buck!

Not sure, this year. Last year the plaza by the ferry dock was set up like it is on New Year's Eve, except the stage was a modern scaffold structure with state of the art sound and lights. The Heinie booth was set up like a 360 degree bar. I bought Hidalgo a Presidente at the airport the next day. He took a couple swigs and realized he was being paid by Heineken and had to go with one of those.

Oh yeah Debbie, you'd KILL to be here this weekend. The weather is beautiful; stellar in fact. Forget the bad Costa Bonita stuff, that is my gripe (hey, if I came to your town for fun, I'd HAVE fun, and you'd know all the nasty little things I don't give a damn about if I'm on holiday, ya know?) the boats will be awesome racing, the sailors are fun as hell...the regatta weekend IS fun. I just live here so I see the flip side of stuff, but if I were to come for some fun and a bit of liveliness on Culebra? This would be a great time. Who is more mellow than sailors...well, once the races are done!

I thought the crews were very considerate to park their sloops in the perfect place to be a backdrop for the LNBFO gathering...

I can't testify to the bands or the beer (I too come to Culebra to get away from the madding crowd) but there was great viewing from the hill behind Melones.

I wasn't here, but I heard the bands played at the ferry dock, a good thing! Passing through St. Thomas on the way back from Jost, I talked to quite a few people who were here for the regatta and loved every minute of it.
So it seems a good time was had by all (except a few local live aboard boaters who were kept awake until the wee hours by some other boaters who were having too much fun!).
